ECW December to Dismember: Ranking the 6 Elimination Chamber Participants
Everybody remember this PPV event? It was the turning point on Tuesday nights for WWE. After this show, WWE finally came to their senses and began using the extra hour for new talent.
The days of ECW "originals" slowly started to go away, and it was definitely the right move. As for this PPV event, it featured the forgotten "Extreme" Elimination Chamber match. Who stood out?
6. Test
1 of 6Test was actually a solid talent on ECW. He never had a chance to win the ECW title, but his work was fine. My problem was his elimination in this match.
He came in, dominated and was a huge force. Test even delivered a huge elbow drop from the top of one of the glass pods! Sadly, it was all for nothing, as he was defeated soon after.
For that, he gets the last spot.
5. Hardcore Holly
2 of 6Hardcore Holly was another good talent for ECW to focus on. He was never going to rise up the ranks on Raw or Smackdown, but he had a new platform every Tuesday night.
Sadly, nothing ever came of it. The exact same can be said about his appearance in the Elimination Chamber match here. Good talent, but no payoff.
4. CM Punk
3 of 6There was a lot of talk about him winning the ECW title here. CM Punk was fairly new to the company, but a lot of people knew just how talented here was.
What happened?
He shined early but was sent packing minutes later. He was one of the first eliminations and would wait almost nine months to taste ECW gold.
For myself, I would have disagreed with Punk winning the strap here. That win was for another man. Clearly, it didn't matter one bit. Punk's career would have gone on just fine no matter what...
3. RVD
4 of 6My feelings on Rob Van Dam are well known by now.
He is a great talent. I would love to see him back in WWE for a short run (like Booker T in 2011). Nothing full time! However, I just never saw him as a main event-level performer.
For a few months, yes! For a title run or two, why not? Staying in the main events? No way.
That was his story in 2006. He won the Money in the Bank at WrestleMania and defeated John Cena for the WWE title. Weeks later, he ruined it all. A year later, he was gone from the company.
When you talk about people being their own worst enemy, Rob is one of those wrestlers. In this match, he did all of his usual "spots." The crowd was excited for him, but I had already moved on from caring about him.
2. Big Show
5 of 6Big Show won the ECW Title back in July. This particular ECW PPV was held in December. As you can see, that was a nice run with the gold.
However, Big Show was leaving the company. It was time to put somebody else "over." In doing so, Big Show gave his best effort here. He played the scared top heel very well, and the live audience loved every second of his night.
Show may have lost the belt here, but I appreciate what he did on this night.
1. Bobby Lashley
6 of 6Bobby Lashley is an interesting talent.
I enjoyed most of his work, but I just never felt the crowd felt "invested" in him. Make no mistake, WWE tried everything in their power to make the next top star. Anybody who says differently needs to watch every show from 2006 and 2007 again.
He was treated like gold, and it was apparent WWE had big plans for him.
Sadly, the live audience did not react to him. For whatever reason, it just never worked. On this night, he won the ECW title, and his stock seemed ready to rise to huge heights.
For the fact that he won, I give him the top ranking!
