NBA Trade Rumors: Ridiculous Dwight Howard Rumor Sucks in Kobe Bryant
The Dwight Howard trade rumors are getting out of hand.
After months of speculation regarding teams the coddled star is willing to play for, we still have no clue what he truly feels.
We do know that the Los Angeles Lakers are one of those teams, and obviously could use the two-time defending Defensive Player of the Year. Yet according to the site RealGM (I’m sure all the real GMs in the league contribute), Bryant made the most half-baked proposal of all-time.
The report states Kobe told Howard he could be the third fiddle after himself and Pau Gasol. He compared him to Tyson Chandler.
Are you kidding me? Did Kobe ask if Howard could take a $10 million pay cut too?
The rumor sounds ridiculous, and luckily Pete Vecsey of the New York Post was on the case to quickly squash it:
"I sent Kobe the story and asked him to confirm, deny or both depending on the paragraph.
“omg! I’m not getting mixed up in this kiddy drama spit, bro. too old for that spit,” Bryant responded via email.
“How do you think I feel at my age having to chase down this stuff,” I answered. “I understand your position. But if it’s untrue, any of it, and allowed to circulate throughout the league, which already is happening, I would think you’d want to say it’s not.”
“It’s not true,” Kobe responded.
"
Aside from the fact that it’s somewhat amusing that Bryant uses OMG and that Vecsey sounds like a grumpy old man, you get the feeling the website made everything up in a desperate (yet effective) way to drive traffic to their site.
The real news comes from Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld.com, who is reporting that the Lakers have been informed by Howard’s agent that they wouldn’t re-sign with the team if they were to trade for him. He knows Bryant isn’t getting any younger and a rebuilding process is in store just as he’s hitting his absolute prime. Kobe’s ego probably tells him he doesn’t need the new-age Superman to win a sixth ring.
Right now, the New Jersey Nets and Dallas Mavericks are the leader in the clubhouse, but neither have the assets for a midseason trade. With Howard doing nothing to stop the monster, expect plenty more of these outlandish rumors to pop up between now and the March 15 trade deadline.
Hopefully this is the last one involving Kobe.
