WWE Raw: A 6-Pack Challenge, Kane's Afraid of Himself, Y2J/Punk and More

Kyle SchadlerJun 7, 2018

WWE Raw opened with chief operating officer Triple H. He was there last week to fire John Laurinaitis but because the Undertaker interrupted him, Laurinaitis is now pleading his case to the board of directors.

A decision will be made at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

After 20 years, he’s still in awe at the sight of the Undertaker. The Deadman wanted a rematch but he wasn’t in awe this time. He looked him in the eyes and felt bad for him.

He wanted to remember the Undertaker a certain way and showed a video of him at past WrestleMania’s.

He doesn’t want to remember him like how he was last year and showed a video of him being carted out. For that reason, he declined the match.

As the Game was about to leave, the lights went out and another video started to play.

It featured footage from the match last year with Undertaker sitting in a chair. He said that it wasn’t over and that his victory meant nothing until he gained vengeance.

Triple H bored me on the mic here. I liked that he declined the Undertaker’s challenge since that creates more intrigue, but it was just so boring the way he did it.

The segment was saved by the Undertaker video, which was very well done.

The WWE editors really pull out their best work for the Undertaker and WrestleMania.

Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show

Big Show won the match by count-out after Daniel Bryan walked out when Big Show almost squashed A.J. Lee again.

Post-match, Bryan got on the mic and ran down the Big Show for almost killing her again. She is more important than winning or losing any match.

After the PPV, he’ll still be a vegan and the world champion.

This was an ok match. It was the same thing we’ve seen from Big Show and Daniel Bryan in their previous encounters: Bryan figures out he can’t beat him so he does something to get out of the match unscathed.

I’m getting a little bored with the same formula being used over and over again.

WWE, if you must do Big Show vs. Daniel Bryan again, please try something different.

Footage is then shown of NASCAR driver Karl Edwards driving into the building last week. He met up with John Cena and told him that he’ll be the honorary starter for the Daytona 500.

I never thought I’d lose more interest in NASCAR racing until this moment.

An Elimination Chamber video is then shown. I changed the channel when this came on.

David Otunga was then in the ring. He put over John Laurinaitis and prayed that the board kept him around. He then asked the fans to pray with him.

Justin Roberts interrupted him to announce that Triple H booked him in match right then and there against Sheamus.

Sheamus vs. David Otunga

Sheamus picked up the win with the Brogue Kick after David Otunga took off his shirt. Otunga got in a bit of offense, but this was an overall squash for Sheamus.

I get wanting to keep Sheamus looking strong. But seeing him win a good back-and-forth match would make him look stronger in my opinion.

I mean, he’s not going to be able to squash the WWE or world heavyweight champion.

As for Otunga, he needs to shake this lawyer gimmick. I know he really is a lawyer, but it’s not working for him as a wrestler. It’s just making him a joke.

Chris Jericho then headed to the ring to speak. The end of the world as we know it has arrived. He has made everyone else obsolete with his return.

They’re all Y2J wannabes and then called the fans wannabes as well. He manipulated and trolled everyone without saying a word.

He put down the other wrestlers in the chamber match and then went into Punk. He’s the worst of all. He’s not the best in the world; the champion is just a wannabe because Y2J is the best in the world.

Jericho is back to reclaim what’s his and that brought CM Punk to the ring. He simply dropped the mic and raised the title before leaving.

This was a great segment, especially the ending.

It was good to finally hear Jericho speak on his return. He really hasn’t lost a step on the mic and I’m glad he’s working as the heel; he’s at his best when he’s the bad guy.

I loved how they handled the Punk/Jericho confrontation. Jericho has been screwing with the fans using silence for the past month and now Punk is screwing with him using that exact tactic.

Randy Orton and Great Khali vs. Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes

The Great Khali and Randy Orton won when Cody Rhodes got hit with the Brain Chop. Post-match, Khali got an RKO.

This was an ok match; nothing special really. I liked the tension between Orton and Khali, though.

There will be no partnerships inside of the chamber and they know that.

While Orton, Barrett and Rhodes performed well, Khali really took the match down many pegs.

I think it would have been better if Daniel Bryan was in this match and the Great Khali faced the Big Show.

The fans were then treated to the same John Cena video from the Royal Rumble and last week’s Raw. I once again changed the channel.

Kelly Kelly, Eve, Alicia Fox and Tamina vs. Beth Phoenix, Natalya and the Bella Twins

The faces won after Tamina hit the Superfly Splash on one of the Bella’s.

This was the typical Diva’s match: short and something nobody cared about.

In fact, there was a shot of the crowd after Tamina got the pin and boy did they choose the wrong section.

The camera showed that they were all sitting down looking very bored.

I was hoping to see Kharma show up and go face-to-face with Beth but that obviously didn’t happen.

WWE really needs to take some notes on the matches put on by the TNA Knockout’s; that’s how a women’s wrestling match should go!

Backstage, Triple H was on the phone. John Laurinaitis then appeared and stated that he still had his jobs and that he thought that the board will be fair.

He then announced that Shawn Michaels will return next week and he booked Kane vs. John Cena in an ambulance match at the PPV.

It will certainly be good to see HBK back in the WWE, even if it’s just for one night.

I also like the ambulance match stipulation for Kane/Cena. It should be a crazy match.

They then replayed the Undertaker video from earlier. I changed the channel again here.

Backstage, Josh Matthews talked to Laurinaitis. He thinks that the board will make the right decision. With Triple H feuding with the Undertaker, I think that John Laurinaitis will remain as the general manager.

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Miz vs. R-Truth vs. Kofi Kingston: Six-Pack Challenge

The six-pack challenge turned into a five-man match after R-Truth hit the outside hard from a flip over the top rope.

Chris Jericho then picked up the win after he took advantage of a CM Punk GTS to Dolph Ziggler.

I thought this was a good match. It was a bit chaotic but it was a lot better than tonight’s other matches.

Everyone performed well and the main purpose of this match was fulfilled.

That main purpose wasn’t seeing the winner becoming the final person to enter the chamber; the purpose was to advance the Punk/Jericho feud.

Y2J screwed Punk out of the victory and even posed with the title as he celebrated. The mind games have begun!

Backstage, Kane looked like he was about to eat Eve. Instead, he said that Cena is starting to embrace the hate but he hasn’t embraced it all yet.

If he doesn’t do that soon, Kane’s afraid for her and anyone that gets in his path.

And for first time, he’s afraid of himself.

Well that’s interesting. I’m quite intrigued to find out what Kane meant when he said that he was “afraid of himself.”

Overall I thought Raw was a bit lackluster, especially compared to last week.

The matches were boring and the only segments that was worth watching was the Chris Jericho in-ring promo with CM Punk getting involved at the end and the Undertaker video.

The only parts of the show I truly enjoyed were the Jericho/Punk and Deadman segments, and the main event.

I was bored for most of the night so I hope WWE can step up their game next week seeing as it’s the go-home show before the Elimination Chamber PPV.
