WWE New Year's Revolution 2006: Ranking the 6 Elimination Chamber Participants
I love the Elimination Chamber concept. While this may or may not be true, the newest WWE Magazine says Triple H came up with the match idea. He joked that the company gave the credit to Eric Bischoff, just in case the structure failed.
Well, lucky for Triple H, it succeed big time in 2002. Since then, it has delivered big match after big match. At the New Year's Revolution PPV event in 2006, it was no different.
6. Kane
1 of 6Kane had an interesting 2006 campaign. His feuds included Big Show, Kane, Umaga and others. Yes, he feuded with another version of himself.
Don't ask!
Through all of that, he began 2006 on a nice roll. In this particular match, he did not do much; he came in fired up and ready to go! Sadly, it would not last as he was quickly eliminated, and his chance at the WWE title was gone.
5. Chris Masters
2 of 6Chris Masters is a very polarizing figure.
Simply due to his size, some will never give him credit. That is a shame.
His first run with WWE was good. It was nothing special, but it was enjoyable.
By the time he returned to the company in 2009, Masters was a different man. He was much improved inside the ring and seemed to have a clear focus. That was great to see! Just like his first run, it would not last long, but his huge strides have not gone unnoticed.
He is still a young wrestler, so seeing him return to WWE (once again) is not out of the question...
On this night, he did not do much. He made it to the final three, but it was mostly filler story line advancement.
4. Carlito
3 of 6Carltio had a similar run with WWE. He was a nice hand to have. I don't think main event level was ever in his future, but I enjoyed his work.
Sadly, some wrestlers have problems they have to overcome. If they don't want to address those issues, they will not last long in WWE. Carlito is another guy who could very well return to the company one day, and I would be welcome to it.
At New Year's Revolution 2006, Carlito lasted until the very end. He was in the final two! That was a huge accomplishment, but I just never believed he would win. As great as he was here, it was (again) all filler for a future story.
Quick funny story: I remember watching this match with a group of fans. We all predicted how the match would go, and one guy predicted the match would come down to Carlito and John Cena! We all laughed at him relentlessly for the next 30 minutes for making such a ridiculous pick...
Thirty minutes later, Cena and Carlito were the last two standing.
3. Shawn Michaels
4 of 6Shawn Michaels had a lot of fun in 2006.
On this night, it was all business.
The WWE Championship was on the line, and he wanted gold. While he did feud with Vince McMahon for almost nine straight months, this was a different HBK here.
Shawn looked ready to win the WWE Title and had his usual great performance. He may have lasted a long time but in the end, he lost.
2. Kurt Angle
5 of 6Kurt Angle only lasted a few minutes, but he certainly left his mark. Earlier in the night, he cut a very memorable promo, but it just could not turn into a WWE Championship title win.
A week later, he took his talents to the Blue Brand and won the world title for SmackDown.
During his time on Raw in late 2005 (early 2006), his job was to make Cena look legitimate. He did a great job and really helped solidify John as the next big star of this business.
1. John Cena
6 of 6Trust me. The real star of this event was Edge. I don't think anybody will ever forget when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and became WWE Champion.
It was what fans call a "moment."
As great as that was, I am focused solely on participants of the Chamber main event. That star was John Cena. No doubt about it.
He began the match.
He even bled during the match.
He was against major odds throughout the match.
In the end, he pinned Carlito to retain his WWE title.
He delivered once again in a huge setting and proved his critics wrong for the 56,674th time. Cena has been doing just that for the past six years and will continue to do so. Excellent job!
