Super Bowl 2012: Looking Through the Eyes of a Philadelphia Eagles Fan
A friend called me today. “Hey, it’s Super Bowl Sunday, right? Are you watching the game tonight?”
While I threw a “yes” in the air, I realized that I wasn’t surprised only by my friend’s enthusiasm (football is anything but famous in Greece), but also from the lack of enthusiasm I had about the Super Bowl. I guess that’s how most Philadelphia Eagles’ fans feel right now.
What makes Super Bowl XLVI appealing to Philly’s fan base? I can’t find any points of interest as an Eagles’ fan. The Eagles won’t be on the field, the game is not at Lincoln Financial Field and the two teams colliding rank from indifference to hated.

Even if you’re a Madonna fan, chances are that you prefer the hits from her early career.
Instead of waiting for the kick-off, I spent most of the day reading about how the Eagles can improve, if they can reduce the number of turnovers and what brings Todd Bowles with him.
The Eagles’ fans have had enough of disappointments. The 2011 season is the most recent and the most painful one. Being one of the best teams of the decade and not winning a Super Bowl can truly drain your football interest.
Personally, I’m not at this emotional level and I am sure that Eagles’ fans still have the fire burning in them, but this year’s Super Bowl will be met with some apathy. That should be a message for the people that run the Eagles, because the city of Philadelphia deserves more than what they’ve been served recently.
As for the Super Bowl, we’ll watch it for the fun of it, with most of us praying for a Giants’ loss.
