NBA All-Star Game 2012: Kyle Lowry and Biggest Potential Snubs
The 2012 NBA All-Star Game may be (ridiculously) deemed "Los Angeles vs. Florida," but the whole roster hasn't even been announced yet.
The reserves still have to be picked by the coaches, and even though the fans often get it wrong with the starters, that's where the biggest snubs will be.
So let's take a look at which players are ready to be "done dirty" by the man.
Kyle Lowry: Houston Rockets
With Aaron Brooks stuck playing with stars such as Marcus Haislip and Smush Parker in China, Lowry has thrived as the team's starting point guard.
The Rockets currently sit at 12-10, and it's safe to say they would be a lot worse without Lowry, who is averaging 15 points, six rebounds and eight assists per game.
I don't care who he is or how he does it. If a player's a triple-double threat every night, he deserves to be an All-Star.
Unfortunately, that's not going to be enough for the former Villanova star.
First, his game isn't always pretty. He shoots just 38 percent from the field, and his numbers have been trending downward (way downward) in the past week.
Second, the West is filled with talented point guards.
Russell Westbrook and Brandon Jennings are likely picks over Lowry, and if a fourth point guard (counting Chris Paul) is needed, Steve Nash has a good chance to win if only because of name value.
Throw in Mike Conley, Ty Lawson and even Ricky Rubio, and Lowry's chances of making the team is—just like his field goal percentage—not pretty.
Marcin "I Block Your Shot" Gortat: Phoenix Suns
First of all, while we're on the topic of West centers, is anyone else surprised that Yao didn't make the team as the starter?
Anyways...
Gortat deserves to be an All-Star, but it's unlikely he'll pass some of the big men in front of him.
Marc Gasol is out-playing Pau (and pretty much everyone else), LaMarcus Aldridge is having a terrific year and even Al Jefferson deserves a mention.
All of those guys could be classified as centers, and even if they aren't, Gortat is going to have a tough time making the squad.
Gortat is averaging over 15 points, 10 rebounds and just under two blocks per game, but I see a snub in his future.
Ryan Anderson: Orlando Magic
Yeah, I said it.
Anderson is averaging over 16 points, seven rebounds and three three-pointers per game. He's No. 14 in the NBA in true field goal percentage. He's like a young Dirk Nowitzki, but American!
And he'll give the hometown fans something to cheer about since we all know they won't be cheering for Dwight Howard.
Unfortunately, the lack of rebounding (for a big man) and defensive stats will likely keep Anderson out of the game.
