Georgia Bulldogs Recruiting: 5-Star LB Josh Harvey-Clemons Finally Sends in LOI
Josh Harvey-Clemons gave the Georgia Bulldogs plenty of drama on national signing day, but it's finally over because they have received his national letter of intent.
Kipp Adams of ESPN DawgNation broke the news this morning, and it definitely puts to rest any doubts coaches and fans might have had about Harvey-Clemons.
The 5-Star linebacker announced his decision to play for Georgia on ESPNU Wednesday morning, but the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported his grandfather, who is also his legal guardian, wouldn't sign off on his letter of intent.
Now the Bulldogs don't have to worry, though, as this finalizes their 2012 recruiting class, giving them 19 players and a top five class, according to ESPN.
What It Means
This is huge for the Bulldogs because hearing Harvey-Clemons commit on national television only to lose him to their archrival, the Florida Gators, would have been devastating.
Some of his family members wanted him to go there because Gainesville is much closer to his Valdosta home than Athens is.
This was his decision to make, and finally his grandfather gave in and signed the letter of intent.
The Bulldogs 2012 recruiting class picked up big-time players, filling areas of need. Harvey-Clemons adds to a superb defensive class, but it was also reported on Wednesday that the 6'5", 208-pound linebacker will get some looks at wide receiver in the red zone.
As Adams points out on Twitter, the Bulldogs landed quite the gem in Harvey-Clemons.
Last year, the Bulldogs got Isaiah Crowell, the No. 1 running back not just in the state of Georgia but also the country. Georgia is getting a very skilled athlete in Harvey-Clemons, which helps ensure the future of the program will remain strong.
What Happens Next
The Bulldogs can now relax, as they have the paperwork necessary to include Harvey-Clemons on their list of 2012 recruits.
The 5-Star linebacker will have opportunities to play this season, but it's next year that he will truly be able to show his skills.
Georgia will lose a lot of talent on defense next year. Expect Harvey-Clemons to learn a lot and gain valuable experience this season, and then have a standout year the following season. He'll need to add some bulk, but that isn't a huge worry once he gets on a college workout routine.
Some of the recruits have labeled Georgia's 2012 recruiting class as the "Ring Team," and now that they officially have Harvey-Clemons, that title has an even better sound to it.
Harvey-Clemons is a phenomenal athlete that gives the Bulldogs great depth for next season, as well as a future star.
