Georgia Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Reasons Why This Class Will Be Great

Brian JonesJun 3, 2018

The smoke has cleared for national signing day, and the Georgia Bulldogs have once again put together another good class.

Now that Josh Harvey-Clemons has signed on the dotted line, the class of 2012 has a chance to be a great group.

It's easy to say that now because on paper there is talent from top to bottom. But the reality is everyone that has signed to play has a chance to make their mark in Athens and if they do all the right things, they could win a couple of SEC titles, and maybe even a national title.

Here's five reasons the class of 2012 will be great.

The Offensive Line

1 of 5

The Bulldogs needed offensive lineman and they were able to address that need when they signed. John Theus has a very good chance to play right away and some are saying he is the next big thing to hit Athens.

Greg Pyke was not as highly praised as Theus, but the 6'5'' 315-pound tackle has a chance to have a great career if he becomes more explosive.

Mark Beard played at a community college last year where he did very well. He also has a chance to see a lot of playing time if he adjust to the speed of the SEC.

The Running Backs

2 of 5

Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley could take the SEC by storm.

If they are as good as advertised, then they have a chance to see a lot of playing time this fall.

Marshall is more of a speed back while Gurley is more balanced and that would make a great one-two combination.

Now if they do see action this fall, what will happen with Isaiah Crowell?

Linebackers

3 of 5

Because the Bulldogs run a 3-4 scheme, linebackers have to be a strength and its was clear that they made sure they would never be short on linebackers.

Leonard Floyd, James DeLoach and Jordan Jenkins were good at getting pressure on quarterbacks at the high school level. With all three switching over the outside linebacker, they should have success making plays off the edge.

Will they have the same success Jarvis Jones is having? Only time will tell, but these three are talented enough to be great SEC linebackers.

Faton Bauta

4 of 5

Faton Bauta is a really interesting recruit.

Scout has him as the 24th best quarterback in the country, but did not start playing quarterback until his senior year at Dwyer High School in West Palm, Beach, Fla.

During his time at Dwyer, Bauta has played fullback and linebacker, and with his size (6'3'', 220 pounds) one would have to think he would get the opportunity to play early, whether its fullback, or quarterback in short-yardage situations.

There is no telling where Bauta will play, but the Bulldogs may have gotten a very special player.

Jonthan Taylor

5 of 5

Ranked as the No. 3 player in Georgia and the No. 72 player in the country by Rivals, Jonathan Taylor is a guy that has the makings to be an elite defensive tackle.

Standing at 6'4'', 315 pounds, Taylor has the size to withstand the huge offensive lineman of the SEC, but also has the quickness to bring down backs and receivers.

If he is able to improve on his technique and adjust to the 3-4 scheme quickly, he'll be an First-Team All-SEC player by 2013.
