Giants vs Patriots Predictions: How Each Offense Performs in Super Bowl XLVI

John RozumJun 7, 2018

It's a Super Bowl matchup between two epic offenses that are led by two of the NFL's best quarterback: Tom Brady and Eli Manning.

Going against vulnerable pass defenses that have been significantly assisted by a pass rush, here's how each offense will perform in Super Bowl XLVI Sunday night.

We're going to see New York try to get quarterback pressure with the front four and rightfully so—that's been the Giants' defensive strength all season.

As a result, expect the Patriots to establish a balance early on. New England proved against the Baltimore Ravens, one of the best rush defenses this season, that it can move the ball on the ground and did so with attitude.

The same approach must be taken to the Giants in order to keep the pass rush honest. If Brady has any throws in the beginning, most will simply be quick pop-passes to the tight end or a slant to Wes Welker over the middle.

Deion Branch will likely face single coverage and Rob Gronkowski will get double-teamed all evening.

Forcing New York to worry and think about defending the run will open up the passing lanes just enough in the second half.

Brady must begin to take over and really expose the Giants' pass defense.

When a passing play is called, a running back or tight end must chip-block Justin Tuck as he'll be facing rookie tackle Nate Solder one-on-one, in order to give Brady that extra 0.5 seconds between a completion and an incompletion.

Anticipate a fast pace from New England to throw New York off guard. Not so much airing it out downfield but quick snaps and audibles to make in-game adjustments.

305 passing yards, 125 rushing yards, two turnovers, 27 first downs, time of possession 31:15.

One major difference in this game will be how the Giants attack early on despite also having a similar offensive philosophy.

With New England's balanced offense trying to control the tempo, the Giants must strike hard and fast because the Patriots are even more susceptible to the passing game. Also, for as solid and respectable as New England's pass rush is, it's still not on the level of New York's.

To that end, the Giants will come out firing to stretch the field and put up points quickly. Doing so will get New England on their heels and potentially out of a balanced offensive attack.

The key for the Patriots is to play press coverage with inside leverage and blitz up the middle. If minimal pressure gets put on Manning, it will slow down the Giants. So, don't expect much from New York on the ground with Vince Wilfork controlling the trenches.

New England is much better at defending the run but won't be able to late in the game if Manning gets going early. The Giants can begin to establish a running game late to run out the clock because while the Pats' offense is explosive, they won't dice the Giants with limited time.

A lot will be predicated on Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs chip-blocking Vince Wilfork up the middle and linebacker Rob Ninkovich off the edge when blitzing.

Much like Brady, the Giants' offense must give Eli that extra 0.5 seconds and a covered receiver becomes open.

320 passing yards, 100 rushing yards, two turnovers, 24 first-downs, time of possession 28:45.
