ESPNU 150 2012: National Signing Day Predictions for Best Available Recruits
There is no shortage of storylines heading into national signing day on Wednesday, with several elite recruits looking for a place to call home for the next couple seasons. That makes it a tense day for college football coaches and fans around the country.
Here are the three best players still working on their final decisions and my predicted landing spots for each of them. It's sure to be a wild ride.
There's no doubt that Green-Beckham is the top player remaining on the board. There are more than a dozen teams interested in the dynamic wide receiver, who hasn't given any indication of which way he's leaning so far.
He's going to provide an instant boost to his new offense because his tools are already off the charts for a college player, and he hasn't even stepped on campus yet. At 6'6'', he has the size to tower over opposing corners, and he combines it with elite speed.
It's a virtual toss-up at this point, but I think he'll stay in his home state.
Prediction: Missouri Tigers
Davonte Neal
Another highly regarded wide receiver, Neal is a different type of player. He isn't a physically imposing presence, but he's going to make his impact by getting the ball in space and making defenders miss. Not to mention he can also play cornerback, illustrating some useful versatility.
It appeared as if Notre Dame and Arizona were pulling away from the pack for awhile, but Oklahoma and Ohio State have both made late charges in an attempt to secure Neal. That makes things extremely intriguing with 24 hours to go.
The Fighting Irish have momentum after landing Gunner Kiel and are my pick to land Neal.
Prediction: Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Andrus Peat
It's not often that an offensive lineman generates much attention on national signing day, but Peat is a special talent. He's going to be a force for years to come no matter where he lands. And judging by his Twitter account, even he's unsure of what to do.
There isn't a team in America who can claim they don't need at least a little help along the offensive line. That's why Peat has a plethora of different offers to choose from, including all of the usual suspects like Alabama and USC.
When it's all said and done, I look for him to select Nebraska.
Prediction: Nebraska Cornhuskers
