Alabama Football Recruiting: Nick Saban Desperately Needs Dorial Green-Beckham

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

National Signing Day is this Wednesday, and in order for Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide to have a legitimate shot at repeating as national champs, they have to land Dorial Green-Beckham

With Trent Richardson leaving for the NFL, the Crimson Tide are in dire need of a big-time playmaker. Listed at 6'6", 220 pounds, Green-Beckham is the No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the country, and there is no question that Green-Beckham would help put Alabama back on top.

Sure, the Crimson Tide have 27 commits as it is, but they would of course make room for Rivals and Scout.com's No. 1 overall player. Alabama's offense needs more firepower, and Green-Beckham can definitely give them that.

It won't be easy landing Green-Beckham, though, as his final schools are down to the Crimson Tide, as well as Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. That's tough competition, but winning multiple BCS National Championships definitely helps Alabama.

There were reports earlier today that said Green-Beckham would be picking Missouri, but after speaking with Green-Beckham's adoptive father, Dennis Dodd of CBSSports.com reported that it was false and the talented wideout has not made a decision.

Green-Beckham will announce on National Signing Day, and wherever he lands he's going to be a star. Each of the schools he's interested in has a huge need for a playmaking wide receiver, so he will definitely see the field of play early and often.

His best bet is to pick Alabama, but the favorite appears to be Arkansas. Texas is the only school without a solid quarterback for Green-Beckham, which is why I think the Longhorns stand no-chance.

Having multiple years with A.J. McCarron would greatly increase his chances of winning a national championship. Plus, all the pressure wouldn't be on him because Alabama will always have a fantastic defense for as long as Saban is around.

What's more, Green-Beckham would be better prepared for the NFL by going to Alabama. He's had to block more often, which will help him for the NFL. Being in a spread offense will only focus on his receiving, but to be elite he has to have the overall package.

Green-Beckham is likely to pick a program that will throw him the ball more often, which is why Saban better have promised him they would give him plenty of opportunities at Alabama.

Repeating as national champs is going to be extremely difficult for the Crimson Tide, but if Green-Beckham were to join the team then Alabama's offense won't miss much of a beat.

After all, those who watched the title game saw that McCarron can be counted on to throw the ball. The defense is still in question after losing so much talent to the NFL, but after four consecutive years of top-three recruiting classes, the Crimson Tide have the talent to be great once again.

I honestly don't think Green-Beckham will pick Alabama, as he hasn't officially visited the school. However, that doesn't necessarily mean he won't pick them, nor does it mean Saban should stop pursuing him in these final hours.

The Crimson Tide offense needs someone to provide a big punch in 2012, but it's still up in the air if anyone will be able to. With Green-Beckham on the roster, there is no doubt that Alabama's offense will thrive, which is why Saban badly needs to get Green-Beckham.
