National Signing Day 2012: Predicting Which Schools Will Have the Top 5 Classes
The best college football teams have the best players. Which schools are going to get these top players on National Signing Day?
It is difficult to predict how a high school player will pan out at the college level, but successful programs are able to get plenty of depth in a recruiting class. This allows the team to keep winning, even if some of the best players are not as good as advertised.
Once the final uncommitted players select a school, these will be the five best recruiting classes in the nation.
5. Florida State
1 of 5Florida State already has a solid class right now, but it could pick up two more top prospects on National Signing Day.
With defensive end Mario Edwards and running back Mario Pender already committed, plus a solid verbal from quarterback Jameis Winston, the Seminoles would be fine without adding anyone.
However, defensive tackle Eddie Goldman and cornerback Ronald Darby are both leaning towards Florida State. These are two of the top uncommitted players available, so adding the two would put the Seminoles among the best classes in the country.
4. Ohio State
2 of 5New coach Urban Meyer will only get a few months on the recruiting scene, but he is already forming an amazing defense with his incoming class.
Ohio State has already received commitments from 5-star defensive lineman Noah Spence, Tommy Schutt and Adolphus Washington. The team also recently received a commitment from cornerback Armani Reeves.
Even without adding any more players this week, the Buckeyes will have done enough to keep them among the top classes in the nation.
3. Alabama
3 of 5Alabama is losing a lot of talent to the NFL this offseason, but Nick Saban is making up for it with one of the top classes in the country.
The team has already received commitments from high-impact players like wide receiver Cyrus Jones and middle linebacker Reggie Ragland.
The commitment on national television from safety Landon Collins was also huge for Alabama, especially after his mother told the country that LSU was a better choice for him.
As long as they stay above the Tigers, Alabama fans should be satisfied.
2. Florida
4 of 5After a disappointing recruiting class in 2011, coach Will Muschamp is regaining steam for a struggling program.
The key will be to have a big push on National Signing Day.
Not only is Florida in the running for a number of good players, but they could be considered in the lead for wide receiver Stefon Diggs, cornerback Tracy Howard and defensive ends Leonard Williams and Darius Hamilton.
The Gators should be able to get at least a couple of these players to sign, and that will make the team the No. 2 class.
1. Texas
5 of 5According to Scout.com, Texas already has the top recruiting class in the country. This is not likely to change any time soon.
Johnathan Gray could be the best running back in the nation and could contribute right away for the Longhorns. He has incredible speed and cut-back ability and will be able to provide some long runs starting next season.
Mack Brown also got commitments from a few other 5-star players, including offensive linemen Curtis Riser and Kennedy Estelle.
The team had a down year this season, but Texas is ready to return to the top of the Big 12.
