UFC on FOX 2 Results: 5 Fights to Get Demian Maia Back on Track
On Saturday night, Demian Maia faced Chris Weidman at UFC on Fox 2, and Maia had arguably the worst performance of his career.
Maia seemed to have nothing to offer Weidman, and he gassed badly in the third round.
Even while gassed, it would be assumed that Maia would go for something to try to win the fight in the third round, but he seemed content to coast toward a loss.
After this performance, let's take a look at five fights to get Demian Maia back on track.
Mike Massenzio
1 of 5Should Mike Massenzio get another fight in the UFC, Demian Maia would be a step up for him, but it would almost certainly get Maia back on track.
Massenzio is 2-4 in the UFC, most recently losing to Rousimar Palhares.
Massenzio has been submitted twice in the UFC, once by Brian Stann and once by the aforementioned Palhares.
Chris Camozzi
2 of 5One of the winners from Saturday night, Chris Camozzi would take a huge step up if he were to face Demian Maia.
Camozzi is 3-2 in the UFC and earned a submission win in the third round on Saturday night.
This is another fight that would either catapult Camozzi up the ranks or get Maia back on the winning track.
Tom Lawlor
3 of 5Tom Lawlor is another fighter who is coming off a loss to Chris Weidman.
The big difference is that Maia made it all 15 minutes, while Lawlor barely made it over two before being submitted and put to sleep.
Both fighters need a win desperately, and this would prove a solid matchup.
Rousimar Palhares
4 of 5As much as we fans want to see this matchup, it isn't very likely.
Palhares was offered the fight against Maia after the injury to Mark Munoz, but Palhares turned it down.
Not only that, but Maia believes there is not enough Brazilian talent at middleweight and that the Brazilians in the division shouldn't fight each other.
We all want the fight—just don't count on it.
Mayhem Miller
5 of 5This is a matchup that makes a lot of sense and is the most likely, in my opinion.
Both fighters are coming off underwhelming performances in losses and need a win over a solid name to get back on track.
In addition to that, both fighters are known for their grappling and would be a good test to see where each stands in terms of submitting opponents these days.
