UFC on FOX 2 Results: 5 Things We Learned About Michael Bisping
On Saturday night, Michael Bisping faced off against Chael Sonnen on the main card of the UFC's second event on Fox.
In a competitive, back-and-forth fight, Sonnen came out the victor, as he scored the unanimous decision.
This decision will likely be debated for years to come, because the fight was just that close. There will almost certainly be a second fight between these two at some point in the future.
Although Bisping lost the fight, he answered a lot of questions that many fans had about him, so let's check out these five things we learned about Michael "The Count" Bisping.
He Can Get Back to His Feet Against Good Wrestlers
1 of 5In the first round, Bisping made it clear right away that he would be able to get back to his feet against Sonnen.
Throughout most of the fight, Bisping was able to create space and bounce right back up.
We'd all been hearing he could do it, but not many of us believed it.
He DOES Have Good Takedown Defense
2 of 5Again, it's something we'd all been hearing but weren't really sure of.
With Bisping's ability to avoid some of Sonnen's takedowns, he accomplished what many were unable to.
Sonnen steamrolled through Brian Stann, Anderson Silva—for the most part—Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami.
None of them had any answer for Sonnen. Only Bisping came close.
He Has Good Clinch Work
3 of 5How often do you see Chael Sonnen getting pushed up against the cage and held there?
Only by Bisping, right?
To be able to do that, Bisping's gotta have some pretty nice clinch work.
In addition to that, he can also be called one of the strongest middleweights.
He's One of the Strongest Middleweights
4 of 5Chael Sonnen is one of the strongest middleweights, correct?
Chael Sonnen could not out-muscle Bisping, correct?
Ergo, Michael Bisping is one of the strongest middleweights in the UFC.
He Does Have Some Humility
5 of 5Bisping may have lost a highly controversial decision, and he could have gone the low road, bashing the judges, Chael Sonnen and all persons involved.
However, Bisping took the high road, simply leaving it at, "I thought I won the first two rounds, but the judges saw it differently" and being consistently complimentary of Sonnen and his performance.
It was a breath of fresh air for those who usually hate every word Bisping has to say.
