WWE Royal Rumble 2012: Why Dolph Ziggler Will Not Defeat CM Punk
Just a few hours from now the Royal Rumble will celebrate its 25th anniversary, and by this time tomorrow we will know who's going to WrestleMania facing the champion of his choice.
Speaking of champions, CM Punk will have his hands full when he takes on No. 1 contender Dolph Ziggler while simultaneously keeping his eyes open in order to make sure special referee John Laurinaitis doesn't screw him out of his title.
The odds don't look good. No one can forget the presence of Ziggler's manager, Vickie Guerrero, at ring side as well.
It will be a long night for the defending champion but after a long battle that could very well steal the show, there is no doubt at all CM Punk will leave St. Louis holding his coveted belt firmly in hand.
Dolph Ziggler may be deserving and impressive but he will not capture the gold on January 29th.
Here are the reasons why.
Simple Reason: It Is Not His Time Yet
1 of 4With everything that is going on at this year's event, Dolph Ziggler is perhaps the least important factor on the show.
Even The Miz has more importance because they put a focus on his being the No. 1 entrant in the big battle royal. Watch as he ends up winning the whole thing. He will be part of the final four for sure, a place I can see Ziggler as well.
Dolph is a great athlete and looks real good but this is not his time. It is his test actually, to see if indeed he is fit to be up there with all the other main-eventers. He is a young man with years of career left in him, patience is definitely going to be a worthy quality to develop.
The WWE books things so obviously, too. Dolph Ziggler won his share of matches against CM Punk recently which means he will lose tonight. Simple company booking. Predictable yet effective.
He does not leave the arena with gold. No way.
Obvious Reason: This Match Is All About CM Punk
2 of 4WWE champion CM Punk has been ruling the scene for a few months now and has done a fine job all on his own.
This thing going on with John Laurinaitis and pretty soon Triple H and/or Chris Jericho is only at the baby stage, Dolph Ziggler hardly figures in the equation. They just needed someone up-and-coming with enormous potential to be free at the moment. It could have been just about any of the top guys.
They give the challenger a chance to shine and win over some extra fan/McMahon approval but in reality this whole program focuses ONLY on Punk, Laurinaitis and the WWE title.
Dolph Ziggler will gain something out of this for sure. He will get credibility, exposure, main event experience, all which will be credited for later but NOT the championship.
He should be grateful, some do not have these opportunities. Not only is he in the match against the WWE champion but he has the right to be in the actual Royal Rumble itself, a major plus.
Hopeful Reason: Something Big Is Coming for Ziggler in 2012
3 of 42012 has already started with a bang!
John Cena will fail against Kane but get the power he needs to destroy The Rock or at least spiral down into whatever sinister shape he chooses.
The Miz, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett and Daniel Bryan have enormous focus placed upon them and they will have the best year of their careers so far.
Chris Jericho is back! That is already a huge chunk of glory for WWE.
Dolph Ziggler? So much potential and the sky is the limit, why not take the time to enjoy it. His evolution into a main-eventer should be executed smoothly and with great precision. Rushing him into a meaningless championship run would only hurt him.
There are many who are still unsure about his character so it will take many more championship matches, MITB matches, promos and feuds to win everyone over. He should be very busy this year and if anything, look for him to have a high-profile match at WrestleMania XXVIII.
That is a good start.
For me, I want Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler in Miami. I reserve Mick Foley for The Miz. Both would be excellent and extremely important.
This Night Will Make History
4 of 4Yes indeed. The 25th anniversary of the Royal Rumble will be a triumphant way to kick start the road to WrestleMania.
It is guaranteed to be filled with emotion, sweat, tears and maybe even blood. Anyone who has been paying attention with WWE programming knows that surprises are in the air tonight.
Who will be the mystery entrants? Will we crown new champions? Does Kane's mastery of the dark side have enough strength to pull John Cena into it?
It will be a night long remembered. The end of the world as we know it.
