National Signing Day 2012: Tracking the Top 26 Wide Receiver Prospects

Edwin WeathersbyJun 4, 2018

For the 2012 recruiting class, there are some very, very talented WR prospects. If developed right, they can become elite weapons.

I'm just going to touch on each top-26 WR's tracker and kick the tires on any available updates. Most are already committed and nothing's changed too much. Let's fly through this and get going.

Shall we?

26. Amara Darboh (Michigan)

1 of 26

The 6'2", 200-pounder is committed to Michigan and his tracker won't change. Darboh will be a Wolverine officially on NSD.

25. Brandon Sheperd (Oklahoma State)

2 of 26

Sheperd has a high ceiling and the 6'2", 185-pounder's tracker is untouched. He's bound for Oklahoma State and should be a good one in Stillwater.

24. Jaquay Williams (Auburn)

3 of 26

UPDATE: Auburn has indeed won out here.

The latest with Williams is he's set to visit Florida this weekend. He's committed to Auburn and also Georgia is lurking. Auburn will have to sweat this one out all weekend.

23. Reggie Davis (Texas Tech)

4 of 26

No change either, as Davis looks settled to sign with the Red Raiders. He's a tall and long WR who should catch some balls in Lubbock.

22. Dwayne Stanford (Oregon)

5 of 26

21. D'Vario Montgomery (South Florida)

6 of 26

Montgomery committed to USF in December and hasn't really looked back. I think he has a chance to compete for early time for Skip Holtz.

20. Sterling Shepard (Oklahoma)

7 of 26

Shepard will add great quickness, agility and RAC ability to the OU WR spot. He also could play DB too. Wherever he lands, he'll be fine.

19. Davonte Neal (Uncommitted)

8 of 26

Neal could play CB in college, but don't be shocked if he becomes a WR. The latest is Neal won't make a decision until after February 11th, when he visits Arizona. Notre Dame, Arkansas, North Carolina and Ohio State are in the mix.

18. Thomas Johnson (Texas A&M)

9 of 26

UPDATE: Johnson has just committed to Texas A&M on ESPNU.

Johnson has de-committed from Texas. It's now down to Texas A&M, Cal and Oregon. Close call to predict right now.

17. Darreus Rogers (USC)

10 of 26

UPDATE: Rogers has committed to USC.

It's pretty much down to USC and Arizona State for Rogers, with USC being the leader. I think he signs up with the Trojans next Wednesday.

16. Bralon Addison (Oregon)

11 of 26

Addison was once committed to Oklahoma State but switched to Texas A&M. Then he began looking around again, including visiting Texas and Arkansas.  He'll take a trip to Oregon this weekend.

15. Marvin Bracy (Florida State)

12 of 26

Bracy is the fastest prep football player in the country and is headed to Florida State. No new news here.

14. Leonte Carroo (Rutgers)

13 of 26

At first, Carroo was recruiting for Rutgers, but Greg Schiano is now gone, so things may change. Right now he's still committed to Rutgers, but that could change before NSD.

13. Jordan Payton (UCLA)

14 of 26

UPDATE: Payton has changed to Washington

Payton was committed to Cal, but now that Tosh Lupoi has left for Washington, he's got the Dawgs on his mind. I think he ends up in Seattle quite frankly.

12. Avery Johnson (LSU)

15 of 26

No new news here. Johnson is signing with LSU as his brother did. He should become a solid deep threat for the Tigers.

11. Aaron Burbridge (Michigan State)

16 of 26

Burbridge visited East Lansing last weekend and his pledge is solid. Like I said about Avery Johnson, Burbridge also should become a good deep threat.

10. Eugene Lewis (Penn State)

17 of 26

Lewis is a Lion. Period. He didn't waver during the dismissal of Joe Paterno and the coaching change and he will sign and fax his LOI to Happy Valley on NSD.

9. Ricardo Louis (Auburn)

18 of 26

UPDATE: Auburn has reeled him back in to the fold.

Louis was a longtime commit to Auburn, but backed off and committed to Florida State last week. Now, he's de-committed from FSU and is looking at the Noles, Tigers and Georgia. He'll decide by NSD.

8. Chris Black (Alabama)

19 of 26

No change here, Black is headed to Alabama. He'll add some good speed to Bama's perimeter flanks.

7. Bryce Treggs (Cal)

20 of 26

Treggs says he's still committed to Cal, but he's taken trips top USC and UCLA recently. I think he signs with Cal in the end though.

6. Durron Neal (Oklahoma)

21 of 26

Neal is solid with Oklahoma. He committed in the summer and really hasn't looked back too much since. He'll sign on NSD.

5. Dominique Wheeler (Texas A&M)

22 of 26

TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Missouri and Texas A&M were thought to be making Texas Tech nervous, but Wheeler hasn't bolted from the Red Raiders at all.

4. Cayleb Jones (Texas)

23 of 26

There were rumors that Jones de-committed and was looking at Auburn a time ago, but he's all Longhorn. No worries Texas.

3. Shaq Roland (South Carolina)

24 of 26

Roland is headed to South Carolina. No new news here. Moving on...

2. Stefon Diggs (Uncommitted)

25 of 26

Summing up the Diggs' recruitment in a nutshell here: it appears that the schools that will get official visits are Ohio State, Cal, Auburn and Florida.

So I would say that one of those will sign him, but he won't be doing anything until post-NSD.

1. Dorial Green-Beckham (Missouri)

26 of 26

UPDATE: DGB has chosen to stay home and play for Missouri.

The top four for DGB are Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. He'll announce on NSD. He's a monster WR with great physical tools. One of those four schools will be jumping for joy next Wednesday.
