3 Reasons Bryce Treggs Should Pick USC After Latest Visit with Trojans

Randy ChambersJan 27, 2012

The recruiting process is heating up as we are now just a week away from national signing day. That's when the majority of the top uncommitted players in the country will make their commitment to one lucky school and the fans and students of that program go crazy and celebrate all night long.

One of the players that will make his decision before national signing day (which, of course, would be Jan. 31) is wide receiver Bryce Treggs. On most top recruiting sites he's considered a 5-star wideout. He's not the biggest at 5'11" and 175 pounds, but he runs great routes and is great at picking up yards after the catch. He's simply a playmaker.

Treggs is already committed to the California Golden Bears, but he is still exploring. He's recently visited schools like UCLA, USC, Arizona State and Notre Dame. His trip with the Trojans was today and there are a few reasons why he may end up switching his commitment and become a Trojan when it's all said and done.

National Championship Chances

California is a team that's recruiting well this season, but what are their real chances of winning the BCS National Championship this season? Or any season for that matter? USC has one of the most talented teams in the country returning this season and with a loaded recruiting class, they're going to be great for years to come.

USC is a favorite to win their conference and reach a BCS bowl every season. There are simply not too many programs where you can say the same thing.

Treggs would have the opportunity to become a champion his freshman year, with California you're going to be lucky to even win the Pac-12 once your whole career. Big time players want to win games, and becoming a Trojan gives him the best chances of doing so.

Stability

We all know Lane Kiffin and the way he left Tennessee, but chances are that's not going to happen again for a while. And at least you know what you're getting when it comes to this program.

With California, coaches are leaving left and right. That includes top recruiter Tosh Lupoi, who was also the defensive line coach, he left for a coaching job in Washington. The Golden Bears also lost wide receiver coach Eric Kiesau to Washington as well.

Being comfortable around the coaches that recruit you is extremely important and plays a huge factor when it comes to recruiting. Just look at top safety Shaq Thompson and what he's said about the coaches leaving, if you don't think this is a big deal.

Playing for a wide receivers coach such as Ted Gilmore wouldn't hurt either.

Learn as You Go

If Treggs ends up staying with California, he'll likely be thrown into the fire right away. That could be either a good or bad thing for a young player that's use to succeeding. With USC, he'll have time to grow as a player and be able to learn a few things from leaders such as Matt Barkley and Robert Woods.

Having veteran players on the offensive side of the ball to help you, would only help Treggs and his development in the long run. Also, having a quarterback such as Barkley throwing you the football will help his growth as a wide receiver heading into his sophomore and junior years.

If he wants to grow and maximize his potential, USC is the place to be.
