Royal Rumble Contestants 2012: Brodus Clay Will Steal Rumble Spotlight

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

Brodus Clay has been a hot topic of conversation for WWE fans since making his long-rumored return three weeks ago.

His new dancing gimmick has gone over far better than expected, and as a result he is going to be the most dominant competitor in this year's Royal Rumble.

The Funkasaurus has been squashing jobbers on Raw for three weeks, because the WWE clearly has designs on getting him over as a solid mid-card performer. In fact, his push has been the best part of the show since he came back.

Every year in the Rumble, there is one superstar who is given more time in the match than anyone else. That wrestler usually winds up being the one to throw more bodies over the top rope.

Who else is better than Clay at playing a monster heel—who the audience would believe could dominate for a long period?

Kane, Big Show and Mark Henry are good, but they aren't going to be able to work long since they all have matches to worry about before the Rumble match gets underway.

Clay, meanwhile, is going to have nothing to do besides sit in his dressing room and tell Heath Slater to call his mama while he tries to get his cutaway pants to rip off correctly.

The Miz could be the wrestler that lasts the longest in this match, just because he is entering first. But even if that turns out to be true, it will be Clay who makes the most of the time that he is given.

He will be throwing dorks out left and right until some monster comes in who can throw him out.

It took a long time for WWE to figure out what to do with Clay, but it appears that they have found the right gimmick for him. To his credit, he has sold this better than almost anyone else would have. He has gotten into it, and the crowd has been receptive to it.

The Rumble will be his chance to show that he can be a threat to everyone in WWE, throwing out eight or nine superstars and working 20-25 minutes in the match. He won't walk away victorious, but Clay will be the wrestler everyone remembers from this year's Rumble.
