Florida Football Recruiting: Current Commits to Make Instant Impact as Freshmen
The Florida Gators are in great position to close with a top-five class and perhaps even a No. 1 class by National Signing Day.
They currently have 20 commitments, including two 5-star recruits and 11 4-star recruits.
While it certainly is going to be a loaded recruiting haul for Will Muschamp, a few of these commits will have the opportunity to impact the Gators early in their careers.
Here are the four current commitments who will make an instant impact next season.
DE Jonathan Bullard
1 of 4Jonathan Bullard should see some immediate playing time in his freshman season.
With his size at 6'4", 255 pounds and the lack of depth at the defensive end position for Florida, Bullard's chances are looking good in his freshman season.
He explodes off the line as quickly as anybody in the country, and he is one of the strongest defensive end recruits in the class of 2012.
Muschamp will be looking to work a rotation on the defensive line next season in order to keep guys fresh throughout the game.
Although the Gators will have some upperclassman in front of Bullard on the depth chart, he'll be one to look out for as the season progresses.
RB Matt Jones
2 of 4A lot was made of Mike Davis' decommitment from Florida, but the Gators still have one quality running back in this year's class.
Matt Jones is the big, physical runner that the Gators have been lacking for several years now.
He is 6'3", 225 pounds and reminds me of a Brandon Jacobs or Steven Jackson-type running back.
He has good acceleration for his size, and he will be tough player for defenses to bring down on first contact.
Since Mike Gillislee and Mack Brown are the only two scholarship running backs the Gators have right now, Matt Jones has an excellent shot at competing for early playing time.
DB Brian Poole
3 of 4Brian Poole is one of the more physical defensive backs in this year's recruiting class and stands an excellent shot at seeing early playing time in Gainesville.
The secondary for Florida will be dominated by mostly juniors and sophomores, so Poole has an opportunity to make a strong early impression and crack into the depth chart.
If he does see playing time, it will most likely be at a nickel position and on special teams.
Poole has shown a knack for making the big plays already by taking back a 90-yard interception for a touchdown in the Under Armour All-American Game.
He'll be looking to make similar plays when he arrives in Gainesville.
OT D.J. Humphries
4 of 4What D.J. Humphries lacks in size, he makes up for in technique and productivity.
He was Scout.com's top performer for the East team in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and for good reason.
Although his frame is smaller than most offensive linemen, Humphries is able to still fend off bigger defensive linemen with his excellent footwork and technique.
In fact, Humphries didn't allow a sack in his entire high school career.
With the Gators' questions at offensive line and with Humphries enrolling early at UF, he has an excellent shot at cracking the starting offensive tackle position before his freshman season is over.
Once he gets on the strength program and is able to add more size to his frame, he'll become one of the most talented offensive linemen in the SEC.
