National Signing Day 2012: Alabama, LSU and Powerhouses that will Dominate
Get excited, people. National Signing Day is almost here!
As we near the big day, it's time to take a look at a few of the schools that I project will bolster an already strong recruiting class with an excellent finish.
Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish already have a great class, highlighted by the nation's top quarterback prospect Gunner Kiel. While they already have highly regarded wide receiver prospect in Deontay Greenberry committed, the addition of Kiel could help them land stud receiver prospects Nelson Agholor or Davonte Neal, too.
The Irish are also said to be still in play for defensive lineman Arik Armstead, linebacker Ken Ekanem and cornerbacks Ronald Darby, Brian Poole (though he remains committed to Florida) and Anthony Standifer.
The Irish only need to land two, maybe three of these prospects to close out an excellent recruiting season.
Alabama
The Crimson Tide are still in the running for the crown jewel of this recruiting class, wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, who alone could make their signing day a huge success.
However, they do have others on their radar. Quarterback Jameis Winston, defensive linemen Eddie Goldman, Dalvin Tomlinson and Korren Kirven, offensive linemen Brandon Hill and linebacker Kwon Alexander could all be in line to make Alabama's recruiting class one of the best in the nation.
Ohio State
Hey, did you hear about how the Buckeyes hired that little-known coach, Urban Meyer? Word on the street is that he's a pretty good recruiter.
The Buckeyes have less scholarships to work with, but look for Meyer to work his magic and seal the deal on an excellent recruiting class come signing day.
If Ohio State can land one or both of the receivers they're said to covet—Stefon Diggs and Davonte Neal—and a few more on the laundry list of prospects they're after, things will be looking bright once more in Columbus.
LSU
Les Miles and Tiger fans are surely disappointed they couldn't sway the nation's top defensive recruit, defensive end Mario Williams, Jr. to Baton Rouge.
However, all is not lost for LSU. Billy Gomila of the LSU blog "And the Valley Snook" spoke with recruiting expert Sonny Shipp about what LSU has left in the recruiting tank.
"The other big need is Cordarrelle Patterson because of Rueben Randle's decision to go pro then you have Jeremy Liggins due to the Gunner Kiel fiasco.
Kwon Alexander would be another big fish to add to the haul as well as Corey Thompson and what a finish that would be if LSU landed those five guys. Odds are they will not but it looks like it will go down to the wire.2. How do you see the rest of this class filling out?
"
I think they will finish up with Patterson and possibly Alexander from the list above then turn to some in-state guys with possibly Jacoby Briscoe as a DL and Alonzo Moore as a DB. Those are some guys I expect to get late looks this week.
Liggins is out, but the others remain in play. LSU might just have an elite class coming in yet.
Hit me up on Twitter—that's where the magic happens.
