Barcelona vs. Real Madrid: Draw Proves Los Blancos Are on Right Track

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Real Madrid fell just short of their goal in their El Clasico contest against Barcelona, but they proved they are ready to be the world's dominant team.

This is in stark contrast to the perceptions of the club entering this match. They had just lost to Barcelona 1-2 in an El Classico contest, and faced a fit of controversy as the match ended.

Not only were they overwhelmed in the match, but the actions of Pepe had people questioning the unity and leadership of the squad.

Near the end of that match, Pepe stamped on Lionel Messi's hand in a way that was almost impossible to construe as anything but deliberate. This drew the ire of fans all over, and once again manager Jose Mourinho was being questioned.

All of this appeared to be wearing on Mourinho, and the Borneo Post even reported hearing from sources that the famous soccer coach was prepared to quit. The report cited that he was "fed up with dressing room issues and Barca superiority."

All of a sudden, this tumult seems like a part of the past.

Madrid proved they are united and full of fight on the road against Barcelona.

The Late Charge

Madrid entered the locker room at halftime trailing 2-0. They were vastly outplayed in that half, and it seemed like they were on the verge of quitting.

That couldn't have been further from the truth. They came out fighting in the second half and were rewarded with a goal by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 68th minute and then an equalizer just four minutes later by Karim Benzema.

This proved to be the last of the scores for the match, and the result ends Madrid's Clasico run, but they fought to the very end.

What This Means Going Forward

This is the kind of effort that can make a lasting impression on a team. They found their passion and fire in the second half and proved to themselves and everyone else that when they are playing this way, not even the mighty Barcelona can slow them down.

That energy and momentum can totally change the atmosphere of a team. It makes the workplace much more enjoyable. That will breed even greater success, and all of this will combine to erase any negative feelings floating around inside this club.
