Ohio State Football Recruiting: 2013 Prospect Malik Zaire's Finalist Is OSU
Urban Meyer’s recruiting wizardry has paid immediate dividends at Ohio State, as Meyer has only been in Columbus for two months yet he’s already managed to assemble one of the best recruiting classes in the country.
Meyer has picked up commitments from some of the nation’s top recruits in the 2012 class, and he’s made it clear that he plans on bringing in the type of elite talent that will be able to guide Ohio State back to the top of the college football food chain after last year’s dismal 6-7 campaign.
Ohio State’s 2012 class is shaping up to be one of the best in the country, but Meyer isn’t just focusing on this year, as the coach has already begun to assemble another huge class for 2013.
Last week, Meyer picked up an early commitment from one of the top junior recruits in the country, when Ohio native Cameron Burrows, a top cornerback prospect from Trotwood-Madison High School, announced that he wanted to be a Buckeye.
It’s also believed that another one of Ohio’s top junior recruits, Jalin Marshall out of Middletown High School, is also seriously considering Ohio State. Marshall is set to announce his decision on Jan. 31.
Now, yet another one of Ohio’s top prospects for the 2013 class, quarterback Malik Zaire, has Ohio State listed as one of his three current favorites, along with Pittsburgh and Nebraska.
Zaire, who plays for Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio, is likely going to be one of the top-rated dual-threat quarterbacks of the 2013 class, and he seems to be a perfect fit for Urban Meyer’s spread offense.
While it may be a little too early to start touting Zaire as Braxton Miller’s successor just yet, the fact that Meyer has three of Ohio’s top prospects showing this kind of early interest in the Buckeyes should definitely have everyone around Columbus excited for the future.
There are few head coaches in college football who can compare to Urban Meyer when it comes to recruiting. Not only is he sending a message with the tremendous talent he’s bringing in with this year’s class, he’s showing everyone in the Big Ten that he’s only about to speed up—not slow down—as it already looks like he's in the process of assembling another stellar group of talent with the 2013 class.
