Auburn Football Recruiting: Tigers Need Strong Signing Day to Boost Class
The Auburn Tigers have 15 commits, including four early enrollees, in their 2012 recruiting class thus far. Come signing day they need to add at least seven to eight more including a few top prospects.
The battle isn't going extremely well, either.
5-star Eddie Goldman and 5-star Stefon Diggs seem to be leaning away from Auburn, and the Tigers are one of at least seven final schools for 4-star Arik Armstead.
Fans cannot forget last year's epic fiasco with Cyrus Kouandjio and would love to get some revenge on Nick Saban and this year's BCS champions in Tuscaloosa.
In order to do that, they'll need to land some of the recruits they're both competing for.
Goldman will make his decision on national signing day and is choosing between the Tigers, Tide and Florida State Seminoles.
With the way both Saban and Fisher have been closing the last two years, it would be a surprise if the defensive tackle chose Auburn.
Diggs visited Florida recently and it would be a surprise if he chooses not to sign with the Gators on Feb. 1st.
One particular player they are in the hunt for is tackle Avery Young. The 4-star prospect was visited by head coach Gene Chizik on Thursday and will make his decision on signing day with ESPN in attendance. He's also considering Florida, Georgia and Miami.
Another intriguing prospect, although not a 4- or 5-star recruit, is defensive back Jordan Moore. The 3-star player was recruited by major programs as a hurdler, but has gained some steam as a defensive back of late.
He's not the biggest name, and is heavily considering TCU, but could be a steal for this program.
There are a number of other big names the Tigers are still in the hunt for, and they need to find a way to close.
Last year's 8-5 record simply wasn't good enough for a typical SEC contender.
