College Football Recruiting 2012: Recruits That Committed to the Wrong School
For this read, I'm going to give you a couple recruits that I think may have committed to the wrong school and the reason why—the latter being the key to my reasoning.
While I applaud every single recruit that makes a decision, here are a few that may have made the wrong one.
5. Ronnie Stanley, OT
1 of 5Stanley is a big 6'6", 285-pounder that could play OT in college, which will be Notre Dame. He made a solid choice, as the Irish are, well, it's Notre Dame!
However, he mentioned a couple times through the process, that he would like to play in a pro-style offense due to the protection schemes and preparing himself for the NFL.
Notre Dame, though they employ some pro-style principles, runs a spread offense. Enough said.
4. Cyrus Jones, WR
2 of 5Jones makes this list due to an "if." As in, "if" Alabama makes him a WR, which is where I would play him. Now, of course, I'm not knocking anything about the champs, trust me, but you and I both know that the Tide's offense isn't the '99 Rams.
Julio Jones was an exception.
Cyrus Jones will have a lot against him should he be stashed as a WR in Tuscaloosa, since Nick Saban's offense starts and ends with a power running game.
3. Brionte Dunn, RB
3 of 5What a roller coaster this recruitment was, right? Dunn's solid to Ohio State now, (as I predicted) as a call or two from Urban Meyer smoothed him back into the Buckeye fold.
Yet, I question the fit. Dunn is a big back at 6'1", 220-pounds, with a straight-line, downhill style. Meyer's spread option scheme is based on speed, quickness and a large amount of COD.
That isn't Dunn's style. He's not Jeff Demps. He's not Chris Rainey. Some adjustments are going to be have to be made by both parties in this relationship.
2. Zeke Pike, QB
4 of 5Pike had his choice of a ton of big-name schools looking for a young QB to groom for both early playing time and for the future. Yet he chose to go to a school that just signed a 5-star QB last year.
Auburn coaches feel Kiehl Frazier has a chance to do some big time things on the Plains. Zeke Pike doesn't care, which shows his confidence and competitiveness.
But Frazier will have a full year in the offense on Pike, which is a big and deciding advantage. Pike could see himself as a backup for a few years.
1. According to His Mother: Landon Collins, SS
5 of 5This was hilarious to me and clearly shows that the combination of live TV and teenagers making life-altering choices can be an outrageously funny combo.
Just watch Collins' mother and her facial expressions during the whole announcement.
