New Homes for 20 Biggest Players in the Summer Transfer Window
There are many reasons why clubs should not submit a monumental bid for a star player during the January transfer window.
The star player is burdened with high expectations to prove his transfer fee in a limited period of time.
The probable circumstances he has to work with include no preseason with the club, new tactics, new philosophy, new teammates, a new formation and adjusting to life outside the comfort zone.
You've read a myriad of January transfer window articles, so here is an article that looks at the summer transfer window.
Here are new homes for the 20 biggest players on move in the summer window.
Marco Reus
1 of 20According to Sports Illustrated, Borussia Mönchengladbach ace Marco Reus will join Jürgen Klopp's youthful Borussia Dortmund side in the summer.
This season, Reus has scored 10 goals and provided one assist in 15 Bundesliga games.
His defensive contributions are invaluable as he has made 35 successful tackles and intercepted the ball 18 times.
Dimitar Berbatov
2 of 20With Bayer Leverkusen ruling out a Dimitar Berbatov return, it's probable no club will sign the Bulgarian in the January transfer window.
Well, no club should sign him, but don't be surprised if Anzhi Makhachkala submit a bid, which will force Manchester United into selling.
Why shouldn't any club sign him?
His contract ends in five months time, and he will not sign a contract extension.
So, it's only logical to acquire him through a free transfer.
Didier Drogba
3 of 20BBC Sport reported that Shanghai Shenhua are the latest club that want to sign Didier Drogba.
Drogba, whose contract runs out in the summer, may refuse to leave in January simply to prove a point to Chelsea.
He feels disrespected that the club won't offer him a suitable contract extension.
Alexander Hleb
4 of 20Alexander Hleb has debilitated his career by not recognising his ability.
If not for Arsène Wenger, Hleb wouldn't have looked so good, and instead of staying loyal to Wenger—Hleb betrayed the Frenchman.
This is such a sad quote from Hleb:
""If I'm honest, I've given away with the best years of my career and I have nobody else to blame."
"
Even though he is on the books of Barcelona, Hleb is currently training with Augsburg.
I didn't think Hleb would appear for Birmingham City, and even though Augsburg don't think they could sign someone of Hleb's quality, I wouldn't be surprised if the Belorussian signed a short-term contract to regain his confidence.
He needs to be the man again instead of the bench warmer.
Pedro León
5 of 20In the space of a year and a half, Pedro León went from one of Spain's bright talents to a forgotten figure.
As long as José Mourinho is the manager at Real Madrid, León will never feature in a Real Madrid shirt.
When asked why León wasn't playing, Mourinho scoffed at the question, claiming León wasn't Diego Maradona or Zinedine Zidane.
Clearly the comments rattled León:
""The way in which those comments were made hurt me more than the words themselves.
I am not aware of doing anything wrong. I did all I could, I was professional, I worked hard.
I think that everyone who is under a contract should be treated the same way.
I felt humiliated at Madrid."
"
If not for Mourinho intelligently blocking the trade, Carlo Ancelotti would have managed León at Chelsea, so maybe León could be a target for Paris Saint-Germain.
That being said, Getafe, who have León on loan, will probably buy him back.
""
Florent Malouda
6 of 20Again, why would any club submit a bid in January for Florent Malouda, when they know he is alienated at Chelsea?
He's done more moaning than playing this season, and it's highly likely that he'll leave in the summer for free.
Paris Saint-Germain would be a logical destination for the Frenchman.
Jefferson Farfán
7 of 20Sky Sports have reported that Jefferson Farfán and Schalke cannot reach an agreement on new contract.
With his current contract expiring at the end of the season, Schalke have to sell him this month or risk letting him go for free in the summer.
According to Stefan Coerts at Goal.com, Inter Milan have Farfán short-listed as a potential target.
Emmanuel Adebayor
8 of 20Harry Redknapp disclosed one of the funniest anecdotes I've read in quite sometime.
Someone asked Emmanuel Adebayor why he couldn't pay a £50 fine for being the worst player in training, when he was earning £200,000 a week.
Adebayor took offence, not with being the labelled the worst player in training, but the misquoted salary: "Don't insult me, it's 225."
£225,000 a week. Wow.
Redknapp made it clear that Adebayor would not receive that kind of money should he join Tottenham Hotspur permanently.
If Adebayor takes insult with Spurs not rating him like Manchester City, then Anzhi Makhachkala could be an option.
Kevin De Bruyne
9 of 20According to Footybunker, Genk winger Kevin de Bruyne will finally secure a summer move to Chelsea.
De Bruyne was without consolation or comfort when his planned move to Chelsea hit a brick wall.
Genk didn't want to sell their prized asset, but it seems they will be fine with letting him go in the summer.
De Bruyne is skillful winger who showed flashes of talent against Chelsea during the UEFA Champions League.
Andrei Arshavin
10 of 20Arsenal have stated they will not sell Andrei Arshavin in the January transfer window.
It's un-Arsène Wenger-like because he will lose the Russian for nothing come the end of the season.
Arshavin's former club Zenit St Petersburg have submitted a bid, but Arsenal will not sell.
It would seem Arshavin is headed back to Russia in the summer because there is no way he deserves to play another season for Arsenal.
René Adler
11 of 20As René Adler sat out with injury, he had to agonisingly watch Bernd Leno pull off some outstanding performances.
Leno has cheaper wages, is younger and has cemented the starting goalkeeping position.
Adler may even have to do a Timo Hildebrand by moving overseas because there are so many good goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.
For example, on form, Borussia Mönchengladbach teenager Marc-André ter Stegen would be favoured over Adler.
Salomon Kalou
12 of 20Salomon Kalou has failed to live up to expectations given he was so highly rated that the Dutch tried to naturalise him.
He's an example of what happens to prospects who warm the benches too much.
They become contempt with warming the bench when they should be starting and performing.
If there is anyone who could revive Kalou's career, it would be Arsène Wenger, and Arsenal are interested in signing the Ivorian.
John Guidetti
13 of 20For a 19-year-old to score goals like a seasoned professional in the Eredivisie shows how much potential John Guidetti has.
He's currently on loan at Feyenoord from Manchester City, and the Dutch club would be foolish not to buy him outright.
Unfortunately for Feyenoord, his performances may lead to bigger clubs bidding for his services, and Manchester City will sell to the highest bidder.
Yossi Benayoun
14 of 20Even though Yossi Benayoun has been reduced to a role player at Arsenal, it was odd for André Villas-Boas to loan Benayoun to Arsenal, given they are top-four contenders, so why help them?
Benayoun should be a role player for Chelsea because throughout this season, the midfield has been crying out for added creativity.
One can only deduct that Villas-Boas does not rate Benayoun, and the Israeli is likely to be sold in the summer.
It would be surprising if Arsenal signed him permanently, but right now, it's the only plausible destination.
Riccardo Montolivo
15 of 20Riccardo Montolivo's situation exemplifies why the landmark Jean-Marc Bosman ruling is so significant.
He is running his contract down at Fiorentina and will have the ability to dictate where he wants to go.
I presume he'll stay in Italy and pick A.C. Milan.
Why Milan?
It's a pragmatic decision because Clarence Seedorf, Gennaro Gattuso, Massimo Ambrosini and Mark van Bommel are all aging stars. What do they have in common?
They play in the middle and their contract runs out at the end of the season.
Where does Montolivo play?
In the middle.
Heurelho Gomes
16 of 20According to John Cross at Mirror Football, Queens Park Rangers are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur reject Heurelho Gomes.
New manager Mark Hughes is keen to stamp his authority on the side by bringing in new recruits.
For QPR's sake, anything more than £1 million for Gomes is not worth it, especially when Hughes could sign him for free in the summer.
Ivica Olić
17 of 20Ivica Olić has been disappointing in the limited chances he has been given.
In terms of attacking output, there is nothing to talk about, because he has only scored one goal.
For a player that works so hard without possession, he has only made one tackle.
He has been on the outer looking in, and it's likely that Olić will leave in the summer.
Sky Sports reported Wolfsburg to be a club that could sign Olić.
Carlos Tévez
18 of 20According to Jamie Jackson at The Guardian, Carlos Tévez's representatives are in Paris to negotiate a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
It's unlikely the deal will be completed this month, more so, an agreement from Manchester City to sell Tévez to PSG.
Please read the Tévez's Most Unprofessional Moments.
Clarence Seedorf
19 of 20With Clarence Seedorf's contract running out at the end of the season and the likelihood that it won't be renewed, one has to speculate where the Dutchman will end up.
Of course, this is assuming he doesn't retire.
Anzhi Makhachkala, who want to be relevant, could sign Seedorf as a public relations move.
Remember, that's why they signed Roberto Carlos, so the average football fan can recognise the name.
By recognising the name, they recognise Anzhi Makhachkala.
Daniele De Rossi
20 of 20Born and bred in Rome, Daniele De Rossi probably will end his career in Rome, but his elongated contract talks does provide some food for thought.
For such a ferocious competitor, maybe he wants to win the UEFA Champions League, and that is the moot point for Roma to persuade him that they will contend for the Champions League.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, he could be a transfer steal for either Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain.
Both Roberto Mancini and Carlo Ancelotti are Italian and manage clubs headed for bigger and better things.
