WWE: 8 Possible Storylines for Brodus Clay in the Ring
His debut was teased for weeks on end by John Laurinaitis, but when he finally strutted his stuff from behind the curtain, Brodus Clay became the WWE's hottest act overnight.
The flashing disco lights, crimson jumpsuit, "funkadelic" vixens, hip gyrations and smooth talking bowled over even the most jaded WWE fans.
Lo and behold, the company now has a standout performer with a character that stands apart from the morass of cookie-cutter cutouts.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Brodus Clay has bucked the trend of menacing giants who snarl and grimace their ugly mugs to the top of the card. Instead, this "Funkasaurus" has gone completely against the pro-wrestling stereotype, toying with his opponents in a playful, not soulless manner.
When was the last time we saw a performer having a ball inside the ring, mouthing off-handed, comedic remarks mid-match in an effort to play to the audience without blatantly pandering to them?
Essentially, Clay is a modern throwback to the glory days of the World Wrestling Federation when characters shone brightly by connecting with the crowd.
When a wrestler's personality is larger-than-life—inviting us into their reality—we are more apt to excuse the fact that we're watching a scripted show with spandex-clad men pretending to "fight."
That being said, as promising as Clay's potential is, his future is predicated upon the WWE writers' pens. For better or worse, let's look at eight possible storylines the WWE brass may have in store for him.
1) Once Chris Jericho is done proving to CM Punk that he is indeed "the best in the world," Y2J may then set his sights on Clay for the title of "most entertaining WWE superstar."
For instance, the two would have competitive talent shows where they try to entice the fans to cheer without saying a single world.
Specifically, Jericho would turn on his light-up jacket, whoop, holler and flail his arms like an attention-crazed adolescent while Clay shakes and twirls his hump to a funky beat. The emcee of affairs would be Jerry Lawler or Michael Cole.
2) Another scenario would involve R-Truth accusing Clay of stealing his "swag." Truth would bring up the fact that, many moons ago, he was K-Kwik, a man who regaled the fans by doing a similar shtick.
The agony of seeing another dancing superstar would compel Truth to scream "conspiracy" at the top of his lungs.
As Truth's mind unravels even more, he labels Clay "Big Jimmy," a mole disguised as a fan favorite who secretly reports locker-room rumblings back to John Laurinaitis.
3) Next, when Alberto Del Rio returns from his groin injury, his first order of business would be to hurt his former associate who he believes betrayed him. And the best way to get under Brodus' skin would be to kidnap one of his "Funkettes."
The abduction would transpire as Brodus is sauntering to the ring. As the announcers and fans notice there is only one "Funkette" with him, "The Funkasaurus" would do a double take and realize there is no dancing diva on his left side.
Consequently, to get his missing "mojo" back, Clay would have to defeat Del Rio and retrieve the "Funkette" in distress.
4) As Clay continues to cement his popular act in the conscious minds of fans, Jack Swagger would come forth to express disapproval with a performer he deems to be unwholesome and non-PG.
The All-American Swagger would feign concern for the children in TV land who have to endure the nightmarish images of Clay lasciviously swaying his nether regions and uttering dirty words in the squared circle.
By laying a guilt trip on Clay for being un-American in style and substance, the fans would rally behind the dynamic dance machine to shut Swagger up once and for all.
5) In addition, a seamless way to broaden the appeal of Clay would be to ally him with established WWE stars. One in particular who could adapt his character to jell with "The Funkasaurus" is The Big Show, who isn't afraid to poke fun at himself.
For example, after weeks of being mauled by two heels (i.e., Wade Barrett and The Miz), Big Show would come to Clay's rescue, after which the babyfaces discover to have one vital thing in common: Having fun.
Thereafter, the two would join forces to become the "Funky Bunch"—a pair of giants who gleefully steamroll their competition in the tag team ranks.
6) Moreover, another idea would be to have Cody Rhodes "randomly" jump Clay from behind, unleashing a vicious barrage of chair shots to Clay's back. Attacks of this nature wouldn't be a one-time occurrence, either; they would continue for several weeks without interruption.
The commentators would seem puzzled, asking why Rhodes has made it "personal" with a man who just wants to have fun and entertain the WWE universe.
Eventually, Rhodes would break his silence, revealing his reason for the violent assaults. In a long speech, "The Dashing One" would explain how Clay has plagiarized his father, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.
Long story short, Cody would elaborate that he could no longer bear seeing Clay copy his father's mannerisms, sullying the name and reputation of the former NWA champion.
And to make things really interesting, Dusty Rhodes could take his son's side in eradicating Clay, the "pretender," from the WWE. In the end, though, Dusty would turn on his son, revealing he trained "The Funkasaurus" to be "funky like a monkey."
7) In time, Clay will have to expand not only his repertoire of in-ring maneuvers, but add another element or two to his personality. For example, as opposed to being a wrestler all about himself, Clay could be portrayed as one who has a bigger heart than most.
In a hypothetical scenario, Clay would come to the rescue of a returning Christian who gets unmercifully beaten down in his first match back. As "The Funkasaurus" assists the leader of the "peeps" to his feet, a bond is forever forged.
In the subsequent weeks, Clay adds human beat box to his resume, taking the place of the erstwhile Tyson Tomko, as Christian resuscitates his rapping skills to the delight of the fans.
8) In the few weeks "The Funkasaurus" has been around, Booker T has been especially enamored with him and his female entourage.
However, that would change if, during a future episode of SmackDown, Clay debuts a third "Funkette." At first, Booker T would be complimentary of the new addition, living vicariously through Clay's suave way with the ladies.
Then, as this new "Funkette" dashes closer to the ring, Booker would be aghast to find out it isn't any ordinary dancer, but his wife Sharmell!
The discovery would prompt the six-time world heavyweight champion to seem confounded at first before realizing the painfully obvious: His wife may be cheating on him with "The Claymeister."
In the following weeks, Booker T's mission would become to win back his wife and take down Clay if he has to. The drama would culminate in a reconciliation between Booker and Sharmell, resulting in the two renewing their wedding vows on a live SmackDown special.
All speculation aside, we'll soon find out where Brodus Clay's career is headed.
