Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Stars the Irish Are Still Waiting On
Brian Kelly's 2012 recruiting class has already made quite a splash. With the surprise additions of USC transfer Amir Carlisle and highly-touted quarterback Gunner Kiel, the Irish are well on their way to having one of the top recruiting classes in the entire country.
This isn't a new development—the Irish are always in the running for the top recruits in the land—but this year they've made some particularly loud noise.
Four-star cornerback Tee Shepard and four-star defensive tackle Sheldon Day have both already joined the Irish community with Kiel and Carlisle as early enrollees (Carlisle as a transfer).
But Kelly is not done yet.
The Irish are still in the hunt for some of the very top recruits as well as a number of other talents.
According to their "considering" list on ESPN's recruiting page, Notre Dame is still being considered by as many as two 5-star recruits, 23 4-star recruits, two 3-star recruits and one 2-star.
Obviously they won't land all of them, but they are in play for names like Dorial Beckham-Green, arguably the No. 1 prospect in the country, Eddie Goldman and Arik Armstead.
Goldman is unlikely to commit, but DBG could become more interested after seeing Gunner Kiel commit to South Bend.
Arik Armstead is a very gifted athlete who will announce on signing day. The Irish are reportedly very high on the list. The decision could come down to whether or not they'll let Arik play offensive or defensive line.
Most of the remaining prospects are athletes who can play the skill positions or big offensive lineman.
The Irish did lose out on local South Bend athlete David Perkins who committed to Ohio State. Expect Kelly to ramp up his recruitment in the wake of Perkins' decision.
There are approximately two weeks left until National Signing Day, and when it hits, don't be surprised if Notre Dame lands more than a few star names.
Chucking the rock on Twitter too.
