Arizona State Football: Potential Quarterbacks to Replace Brock Osweiler in 2012
The Arizona State Sun Devils are going to need to replace quarterback Brock Osweiler for next season, as the junior quarterback has decided to forgo his senior season to enter the NFL draft.
It remains to be seen if that was a wise choice, as new head coach Todd Graham is going to have to make a decision on who will take snaps under center for 2012. He will need to replace 26 touchdowns and more than 4,000 yards. It won't be easy, but he has no choice at this point.
Last season, Osweiler didn't miss one game. He was relieved twice late in games, but he was the primary passer all season long. The only other person to throw a touchdown pass was wide receiver Jamal Miles, who completed the trick play back in Week 2 against the Missouri Tigers.
The following have a shot to be starting for the Sun Devils in 2012.
Mike Bercovici
This past season, Bercovici was the designated backup for the Sun Devils. The freshman quarterback showed up in two games, going for a combined 2-of-3 with 15 yards. That doesn't show anything, but the 3-star recruit out of California may get the call next season.
Bercovici was the 14th-rated QB in his class last season, but being ready to play under a pro-style system could really put him in position to be Graham's man.
According to the ASU website, the freshman has many skills, saying he has a "cannon arm, sound mechanics and is tremendously accurate."
Bercovici may be able to surpass expectations just like Osweiler did, but he is likely still extremely raw since he will only be coming in as a sophomore.
Michael Eubank
The Sun Devils have a very different QB on their roster in Eubank. The freshman was redshirted this year and could be looking to make a huge impact next season.
He was a 4-star prospect coming into his freshman year at ASU and is considered an extremely explosive player.
According to Doug Haller of AZcentral.com, Graham actually recruited Eubank back when he was at Pittsburgh.
He is a change from the traditional QB option in Bercovici, as he presents a threat with his arm as well as the ability to run the ball.
During his senior season at Centennial H.S., he threw for 2,831 yards with 22 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,329 yards with 19 touchdowns.
He could add a new type of threat to the Sun Devils offense, but the direction Coach Graham will want to go with the offense will determine his productivity.
Taylor Kelly
The Sun Devils have another dual-threat option in sophomore QB Taylor Kelly. During his senior season at Eagle High School in Idaho, he threw for 2,509 yards with 22 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,005 yards while punching 11 in with his feet.
Kelly got four passes off this past season, completing all of them for 31 yards. Against the Colorado Buffaloes, he also received one carry that he took for 24 yards.
He definitely showed some promise this past season, but the question is if he can perform on a consistent basis.
