NHL Trade Rumours: Updating Latest Rumors for Every Team as Deadline Approaches

Nicholas GossMay 31, 2018

NHL trade rumors are really heating up with the trading deadline only about a month away, and some big names could be on the move.

Zach Parise, Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzlaf, Teemu Selanne, Jarome Iginla and Shane Doan could all be traded at the deadline as teams looking to make a push for the playoffs decide whether to risk young talent and draft picks for proven talent.

Let's look at the latest trade rumors surrounding each NHL team as the February 27 deadline nears.

Anaheim Ducks

1 of 30

Trade rumors continue to surround the Anaheim Ducks as they sit in second-to-last place in the Western Conference.

Forward Bobby Ryan is drawing interest from teams looking to make an upgrade at left wing. Here is an update on Ryan's situation, via the Edmonton Journal:

"

Another league executive agrees Ryan is the most likely to move on.

“He’s really good, don’t get me wrong, but Getzlaf and (Corey) Perry? They go together,” he said, unsure what Ryan would fetch other than young players.

"

Ducks forward Teemu Selanne has yet to say if he will stay in Anaheim after the trading deadline.

“We still have time to go,” said Selanne, whose team will likely be all-but-eliminated from the playoff race before the Feb. 27 trade deadline. "We’ll see.”

Boston Bruins

2 of 30

Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli told ESPN.com that he would like to add some depth at forward and on defense if he can before the trading deadline.

"

Obviously we have a lot of cap room, so there’s a lot of flexibility," Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli told ESPN.com Thursday. "I would like to add depth-wise on the forward front and depth-wise on the defenseman front. But I don’t want to subtract anything."

Buffalo Sabres:

The Buffalo Sabres need to make a major trade, and one could be coming soon. Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky is one player the Sabres may have interest in.

Calgary Flames

4 of 30

By acquiring Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri, the Calgary Flames are making their best possible push towards a playoff spot. It's a bold strategy but there is still a month until the deadline, so if they fall out of the race soon they'll have time to reassess the situation.

For now, it seems that star winger Jarome Iginla won't be traded.

Carolina Hurricanes

5 of 30

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason is one of the most sought-after veterans at the deadline because of his good defensive abilities and his expiring contract.

The Philadelphia Flyers could have strong interest in the Hurricanes blueliner, and I would not be surprised to see the Boson Bruins make a play for him, too.

Chicago Blackhawks

6 of 30

Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman will certainly be looking to see if he can improve his team for another Stanley Cup run, but I would not expect the Blackhawks to make a major trade.

As currently constructed, the Blackhawks are good enough to win the Stanley Cup if goaltender Corey Crawford plays well.

Colorado Avalanche

7 of 30

The Colorado Avalanche are just one point behind the Minnesota Wild for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. I wouldn't expect the Avalanche to make a major move. However, if they find a deal that works for them, the team certainly has young players every NHL club would covet.

Columbus Blue Jackets

8 of 30

The Columbus Blue Jackets still have the worst record in the NHL but nothing major seems to be imminent regarding a trade.

Star winger Rick Nash has already said he would waive his no-trade clause if the team wanted to deal him, but his salary cap hit is massive at over $7 million.

Dallas Stars

9 of 30

The Dallas Stars are 10th in the Western Conference standings and are two points out of a playoff race. I wouldn't expect the Stars to make a major move before the deadline, especially since the Pacific division is so weak.

Detroit Red Wings

10 of 30

The Detroit Red Wings may have interest in Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky but I think he would not be a good fit with them and the asking price would probably be too high.

The Red Wings could also think about making a bold and surprising move for New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise, and they certainly have the prospects to get it done.

Edmonton Oilers

11 of 30

The Edmonton Oilers have fallen out of the playoff race and are third from the bottom in the Western Conference standings.

Upcoming free agent Ales Hemsky will likely be traded so the team can get something in return for him before they lose him for nothing in the summer.

Several contending teams have interest in the winger.

Florida Panthers

12 of 30

The Florida Panthers have allowed the Washington Capitals to come within one point of them for the Southeast division lead, and will need to get consistent goaltending to make the playoffs this season.

I don't expect the Panthers to make a major move before the deadline, but they have several top prospects to offer if the right deal comes up.

Los Angeles Kings

13 of 30

The Los Angeles Kings are really motivated to make the playoffs right now, and with players getting healthier and Jonathan Quick playing great between the pipes, expect the Kings to be buyers at the deadline.

Zach Parise could be a realistic target for the Kings as the trading deadline nears.

Minnesota Wild

14 of 30

The Minnesota Wild continue to fall in the Western Conference standings, and have gone from first in the West to the eighth and final playoff spot.

Expect them to be contenders despite their struggles, and the team is reportedly pondering a deal. The Wild could be players for Zach Parise since he's a Minnesota native and his dad is a former captain of the old Minnesota North Stars franchise.

With injuries to Mikko Koivu and Devin Setoguchi, the Wild need offensive help before the deadline.

Montreal Canadiens

15 of 30

After acquiring Rene Bourque from the Calgary Flames in exchange for forward Mike Cammalleri, the Canadiens are hoping their offense can improve.

Despite their struggles this season, the Canadiens are only eight points out of a playoff spot, which isn't an impossible mountain to climb. Expect general manager Pierre Gauthier to make at least one more move, maybe in a desperate attempt to save his job.

Nashville Predators

16 of 30

The Nashville Predators have some major decisions to make in the coming weeks. Star defensemen Ryan Suter and Shea Weber are going to be free agents in the summer, and signing them both to the money they want could be too expensive for the team.

Suter is reportedly a target of the Philadelphia Flyers, and their offensive depth would allow the Predators to fix one of their weaknesses, which is goal scoring.

New Jersey Devils

17 of 30

The New Jersey Devils are reportedly seeing what they can get in return for star winger and captain Zach Parise. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and likely won't sign long-term with the Devils since the club isn't a Stanley Cup contender right now, and the team has serious financial issues.

I would be shocked if the Devils don't trade Parise before the deadline and risk losing him for nothing in the summer.

New York Islanders

18 of 30

I don't expect the New York Islanders to make any major moves at the trading deadline since they are 10 points out of a playoff spot and are better off developing their young talent.

One player on the Islanders that contending teams may have interest in is veteran goaltender Evgeni Nabokov, who has lots of playoff experience from his years with the San Jose Sharks.

New York Rangers

19 of 30

The New York Rangers are first in the Eastern Conference right now, and don't need to make a bold move and risk hurting the team's chemistry, especially when they have cap space to use in the summer.

Bobby Ryan could be dealt by the deadline, and as a proven goal scorer, he would give the Rangers depth at left wing which they currently lack.

With Shea Weber's future with the Predators uncertain, the Rangers may see what the asking price for the star defenseman is and possibly make a run at him.

Ottawa Senators

20 of 30

The Ottawa Senators are one point behind the Boston Bruins in the Northeast division (although Boston has five games in hand), and are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

After acquiring young forward Kyle Turris from the Phoenix Coyotes recently, I don't expect the Senators to make any major moves. They do, however, have a lot of young talent, which makes them a contender to acquire any major star on the block if they see a deal that works for them.

Philadelphia Flyers

21 of 30

It's no secret that because of the injuries to Philadelphia Flyers defensemen, especially captain Chris Pronger, that Philly is in the market for a stud defenseman.

Ryan Suter of the Predators is a player the Flyers reportedly have interest in, and one veteran defenseman that would be a great fit in Philly is Carolina's Tim Gleason.

The Flyers have a good amount of offensive depth to offer a team for a star defenseman.

Phoenix Coyotes

22 of 30

The New York Post looked into some possible New York Rangers trade targets, and one of them might be Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan.

Doan has never won a Stanley Cup, and the Rangers appear to be one of the favorites this season. Doan is well-liked in Phoenix and seems comfortable in Arizona. I would be surprised if he's moved, but the chance to play for the Cup is often too great for veterans to ignore.

Pittsburgh Penguins

23 of 30

The Pittsburgh Penguins are seventh in the Eastern Conference standings and have been hurt by injuries to key players.

I wouldn't expect them to do anything major just yet, and they will likely wait until Sidney Crosby's future for this season is determined before doing anything bold or risky.

San Jose Sharks

24 of 30

The San Jose Sharks could be active at the trading deadline but I wouldn't expect them to be major players. Their roster as is can make the Stanley Cup Final out of the Western Conference, and getting their best players healthy seems like priority No. 1 for the Sharks.

St. Louis Blues

25 of 30

The St. Louis Blues are one point behind the Detroit Red Wings in the Central division and Western Conference. The Blues have played exceptional under veteran head coach Ken Hitchcock who took over early in the season.

St. Louis has two fantastic goaltenders right now, Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak. Halak to the Maple Leafs is a hot rumor right now as Toronto tries to find a top goalie for now and the future. With all of their prospects, I would not be surprised to see the Blues make a run for Zach Parise as well.

Tampa Bay Lightning

26 of 30

The Tampa Bay Lightning got their first win of 2012 on Tuesday night when they defeated the Boston Bruins, and they currently sit in second to last place in the Eastern Conference standings thanks to poor goaltending.

I wouldn't expect general manager Steve Yzerman to make a bold move for a goalie, however, especially when it seems like the Lightning will miss the playoffs.

Toronto Maple Leafs

27 of 30

The Toronto Maple Leafs are swirling with rumors right now as the team tries to end their playoff drought this season, and currently sit one point behind the Washington Capitals for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.

General manager Brian Burke will be no doubt looking to make some big moves, and some players recently rumored with the Leafs include Rick Nash, Eric Staal (slim chance), Ryan Getzlaf and Jaroslav Halak.

Bobby Ryan may also be a target for the Leafs, and the following information on him is from the Ottawa Sun, via HockeyBuzz:

"

Toronto GM Brian Burke has promised to make a move. He wants to get ahead of everybody else and it would appear Anaheim F Bobby Ryan is his top target. It will cost Toronto either Joe Colborne or Nazem Kadri, along with another prospect and a No. 1 pick to land Ryan.

"

Pay attention to the Leafs as the trading deadline nears.

Vancouver Canucks

28 of 30

The Vancouver Canucks need some more size and physical players, but I wouldn't expect them to make a major move at the trading deadline. Roberto Luongo's playoff struggles make the decision to trade backup goalie Cory Schneider quite difficult, especially considering how well he played in Boston on January 7.

Anaheim Ducks defenseman George Parros was recently rumored with the Canucks, but I doubt he is moved at the deadline.

Washington Capitals

29 of 30

The Washington Capitals hold the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference but holding that position will certainly be a battle. Missing the playoffs would be devastating for a team that expected to win the Stanley Cup this season.

I'd be shocked if the Capitals did nothing at the deadline, and one player they have to trade is winger Alexander Semin, who is in the final year of his contract. The Capitals would be foolish to re-sign him for what he's making now, so I would expect them to trade Semin in order to get something for him before he becomes a free agent after the season.

Winnipeg Jets

30 of 30

Teemu Selanne making a return to the Winnipeg Jets to perhaps retire with the team would be a fitting ending to his NHL career. He also would help the Jets make a push for the playoffs since the team is only three points out of a spot in the Eastern Conference.

Selanne has not ruled out a possible trade, so the speculation of him moving could continue as the deadline approaches.
