Liverpool FC: Is Liverpool's Daniel Agger Better Than Chelsea's John Terry?
To be honest, I was growing tired of reading transfer article after transfer article, and so I've decided to break the mould a little and write about something with no ties to the January transfer window or Eden Hazard.
My inspiration has come from an argument that I had today at school. I argued that at this moment in time, Daniel Agger is a better centre back than John Terry.
I was laughed at, but then again, I don't really value their opinions. Naturally, I value my own opinion more than theirs, but in any case, I'd like to give you guys the chance to vote just to see whether I'm a raving lunatic or not.

To help you out with your choice, I've gathered some stats together:
Appearances This Season
John Terry: 21
Daniel Agger: 17
Tackles This Season (Average Per Game)
John Terry: 1.4
Daniel Agger: 1.2
Fouls This Season (Average Per Game)
John Terry: 0.8
Daniel Agger: 0.6
Blocked Shots This Season (Average Per Game)
John Terry: 0.8
Daniel Agger: 0.8
Clearances (Average Per Game)
John Terry: 5.5
Daniel Agger: 3.5
How Many Times Dribbled Past by Opposition (Average Per Game)
John Terry: 0.6
Daniel Agger: 0.4
Dispossessed When in Possession (Average Per Game)
John Terry: 0.2
Daniel Agger: 0.1
Shots (Average Per Game)
John Terry: 0.8
Daniel Agger: 0.9
So, those stats give you an idea of how each player has performed individually, but as a recap of main points, statistically:
John Terry makes more tackles per game than Daniel Agger.
Agger is less likely to be dribbled past than Terry.
Agger is less likely to be caught in possession than Terry.
Both are equally as efficient in blocking shots.
Terry makes more clearances per game than Agger.
Terry commits more fouls per game than Agger.
So there we have individual statistics, but they should be put into context. The best way to do this is to compare the defences of Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively, and see who concedes the least goals, thus showing each back lines efficiency. It's fair to say Terry and Agger lead their back lines.
Goals Conceded in the Barclays Premier League
Chelsea: 25
Liverpool: 18 (second lowest in the League).
Shots Against (Average Per Game)
Chelsea: 12
Liverpool: 11
Average Time with Ball in Their Own Final Third
Chelsea: 26 percent
Liverpool: 26 percent
So there we have it. It's pretty close, I admit.
However, I stand by what I said. I firmly believe that Daniel Agger is a better defender than John Terry at this moment in time. He is younger.
Also, please note that if there is any justice in football these days, Terry will receive a rather hefty ban after he is due to appear in court on February the first. The alleged racism remarks have much more proof than what Evra's claims against Suarez had, so if he gets anything less than an eight-match ban, or something equivalently punishing, then I'd be surprised.
So, vote. Honestly, I might add.
Thanks for reading.
