NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers and Teams That Should Go After Boris Diaw
If you're wondering where all that fat that Charles Barkley went, just take a look at Charlotte Bobcats forward Boris Diaw.
OK, sorry, I just had to get a quick, Diaw-is-fat joke out the way before we get started.
According to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, Diaw has been placed on the trade block.
A deal, however, is going to be hard to get done. The Bobcats, according to Bonnell, aren't going to take a bad contract in a deal. That could very well be a deal-breaker.
Also, Diaw is making $9 million this season and is often seen as lazy. There are certainly flaws with the big man, but Diaw could be a nice role player if put in the right situation.
Here's a look at teams that should take the (big) risk.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers signed Troy Murphy and and Josh McRoberts in the offseason to added front-court depth, but it couldn't hurt to add Diaw, who can surprisingly still play the three as well.
The Lakers still have the trade exception from the Lamar Odom deal to be able to afford Diaw. Also, his contract is expiring at the end of the season so they could still presumably make a run at Dwight Howard.
This is a low-risk move for the Lake Show that could really pay off come playoff time.
Phoenix Suns
If Diaw's laziness problem will be solved, it could very well happen in Phoenix, where he was always most comfortable.
If he were in a situation that he enjoyed, he might just give the extra effort.
The Suns also have a lot of frontcourt depth, but Channing Frye and Robin Lopez have underperformed and they don't seem ready to give Markieff Morris full-time minutes.
This could be a win-win for both Diaw and the Suns.
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks lost Al Horford for at least the majority of the season. While they have Zaza Pachulia to fill his place, they are going to need another big man for depth.
Diaw would be a way to get their playoff run while Horford works his way back.
