WWE News: Major Update on WWE's Plans for the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match
The Royal Rumble is typically one of the WWE’s most exciting pay-per-views of the year, and that has a lot do with the ever-so-entertaining 30-Man Royal Rumble match.
Fans really enjoy the bout because it often features some memorable spots and unforgettable returns. In fact, most of us have grown to expect to see some surprising names show up for the match, even if it is just a one-off appearance.
But don’t get your hopes up because we may not see that happen in this year’s Royal Rumble.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
From WrestleZone.com:
"After speaking with several WWE sources over the weekend, WZ has learned that the company does not currently have plans to bring in any outside talent for this year's Royal Rumble match.
Unlike last year's Royal Rumble match, which featured 40 wrestlers and saw names like Booker T and Kevin Nash make their WWE returns, WZ has been told that this year's match is more likely to focus on names that are already with the company, and if there are any surprise entrants, they will likely be names such as The Undertaker, who is not considered an "outside talent."
WZ was also told that creative has been discussing the idea of potentially featuring a few FCW developmental talents in the match this year, although this has not been confirmed. It is more likely, however, if there are a few slots left in the match to fill, that WWE will go with in-house names rather than outside names making a "one-time appearance/return."

Well, at least in my opinion, this report gives us some good news and some bad news.
The bad is that we may not see any surprise appearances in the Royal Rumble, which is pretty disappointing. Even if a wrestler is just back for this one match, it’s usually fun to see some familiar names from the past back in a WWE ring.
I think that’s actually why some people even order the pay-per-view. We usually have a pretty good indication of who’s going to win the match, but I often watch it to see what surprises are in store for us throughout the hour-long bout.
It looks like the surprises may be limited to some FCW names this year, though, which is actually the good news.
The Royal Rumble match could be the perfect time to introduce some new talent into the WWE, as long as they are booked correctly. If the WWE wants to bring up a developmental worker and give him a solid push right out of the gate, the Rumble provides an easy way to make that happen.
You have the developmental star debut sometime during the middle of the match, eliminate a number of competitors (five or more) and then last until near the end of the match. Instantly, that guy will be viewed as someone with a bright future.
It could work wonders for one of FCW’s top stars, such as Seth Rollins, Antonio Cesaro, Dean Ambrose or Damien Sandow, even without them actually winning the Royal Rumble.
I honestly wouldn’t debut more than one FCW worker, though, because you don’t want to water down the concept of guys making their debut the Rumble match.
