Starlin Castro: Cubs Must Keep SS out of Spotlight Until Charges Are Resolved
Regardless of whether the sexual assault allegations leveled against Starlin Castro are true or not, the Cubs have no choice but to keep him out of the public eye until the matter is resolved. According to CBS Chicago, Castro is being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Chicago before heading home to the Dominican Republic for the offseason.
"Sources say she and a friend left the bar at 3 a.m. the following morning and went to the 21-year-old Castro’s apartment on State Street nearby. The woman claimed she passed out at Castro’s apartment and woke up screaming, finding him on top of her.

This is the first time that Castro has been in Chicago since the incident allegedly occurred. According to Dan Bernstein of CBS Chicago, Castro has been in questioning since Thursday night.
Guilty or not, there is no way that having Castro in the public eye will go well. Events like the Cubs Convention would be bad enough without Castro in attendance, as the questions would be constant. But with him there, the spotlight on the event would be great and for all the wrong reasons.
What is more important than the distraction to Castro or any of the Cubs is how serious these charges are. If they are proven true and the Cubs keep Castro keep Castro around the team's events, it will look bad. If they are proven false but the team keeps him away, it doesn't look like they were being anything more than cautious.
That is the better road to take. This is especially true if we're talking about promotional events, but also as it relates to spring training and the start of the season.
This is not about punishing Castro for what he's been accused of doing. Castro certainly has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. Instead, the Cubs need to take this action to protect their team, as well as Castro.
In keeping Castro away from the team, the Cubs accomplish a few things: They keep a distraction away, give one of their players time to handle some serious charges and show that they're acknowledging something greater than the game.
