2012 National Signing Day: Profile and Scouting Report on Dorial Green-Beckham
College football recruiting is in full swing, as National Signing Day is less than a month away. The future of the nation's best programs is at stake, and these last few weeks are extremely crucial in landing top talent to climb up the recruiting rankings.
A number of elite recruits are still up for grabs, and they won't make their decision until the highly anticipated National Signing Day, which is on February 1.
One in particular is Dorial Green-Beckham, who Rivals.com rates at the No. 1 overall player in the country.
He is sure to be an impact star right away, but at the moment it's uncertain where he'll end up. With that said, let's take a further look at the nation's top recruit.
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 220 lbs
40-Yard-Dash Time: 4.43 seconds
Top Choices
According to Rivals, the top five schools Green-Beckham is considering are Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
His one and only visit thus far has been to Texas, which would prompt many to believe the Longhorns are the leaders.
However, Green-Beckham was planning on visiting Oklahoma, but had to cancel because of "fatigue." He's been a busy kid recently, winning awards and also playing basketball.
Dorial's father, John Beckham, was his varsity coach for four years, and he told Brian McLaughlin of Sporting News that his son may not use all of his five allotted visits.
All of these schools are in dire need for a playmaking receiver like Green-Beckham, which intensifies his recruitment. There's a lot of hype surrounding him, but as talented as he is, Green-Beckham shouldn't have much trouble living up to it all.
Whichever school he chooses will end up getting a sure-fire star, and it shouldn't take long for the country to figure out who he is.
Scouting Report
First, let's start with some stats of his, courtesy of Rivals.
During his high school career, in which he played at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri, Green-Beckham amassed 6,353 yards on 300 receptions and 75 touchdowns.
His senior year, Green-Beckham had 119 receptions for 2,233 and 24 touchdowns. He's a freak of nature, and will most certainly be a dynamic force wherever he ends up
When you're 6'6" with burning speed like Green-Beckham, you're going to dominate.
The height advantage obviously helps him thrive, but he's much more than just a tall wideout. Green-Beckham has the big body, strong hands and shows a great burst after the catch.
Similar to the likes of A.J. Green and Calvin Johnson, if you throw it up there, Green-Beckham is going to bring it down.
He's not as smooth as Green or as physical as Johnson, but he can definitely get there. Green-Beckham plays the game with great intensity, gets off the ball quickly and doesn't have much trouble separating himself from defensive backs, no matter where he's at on the field.
Green-Beckham is most likely to bring the biggest impact with the deep ball, as he is a major threat in that area. However, he possesses the skills to continue to grow into an all-around receiver, capable of taking it to the house with every catch.
Prediction
I would immediately throw out Missouri but it happens to be only three hours from where he's from. The Tigers' move to the SEC certainly keeps them in the running for the services of Green-Beckham.
Arkansas and Oklahoma have the best quarterbacks to throw him the ball, but since Tyler Wilson and Landry Jones will only be in school for one more year, it's not as much as an advantage as one would think.
With Texas being his only visit, I'm inclined to lean more toward them, but after recently winning the BCS National Championship, I'd have to say that Alabama will be the lucky school to get Green-Beckham.
Of course, this is mere speculation, and if you ask me again in two weeks I might pick another school simply because so much changes in the college football recruiting world.
Green-Beckham isn't giving any hints as to where he'll land, but one thing's for sure: The kid is going to shine, no matter which uniform he puts on.
