WWE Weekly 5: Tag Teams You Probably Forgot Existed
Conference officials are meeting in New Orleans to discuss changes to the BCS, and one proposal would allow more than two teams from a single conference into a BCS Bowl.
But should that idea come to fruition, it won’t happen until at least 2014, which means there will be a handful of teams that will be competing for a conference championship but fail to reach the BCS.
Here are four of those teams.
The Heavenly Bodies
1 of 6There have been a few combinations of teammates to make up a team known as the Heavenly Bodies, but the pair who came through WWE were none other than Tom Prichard and Jimmy Del Ray.
Del Ray has left the wrestling business, but Tom Prichard, along with his brother Bruce, is still in the business.
Tom trains wrestlers down in FCW, while Bruce is the TNA version of John Laurinaitis. This must be convenient for them, as both men are based in Florida.
Tom Prichard and Jimmy Del Ray did not hold gold in WWE, but they were a good team who made their way through several different promotions, including ECW, USWA and Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
They held gold in both USWA and SMW and were a couple of the people who were used in the unique cross-promotional deal WWE had with USWA at the time.
Their most notable feud in WWE was with The Rock 'n Roll Express.
Well Dunn
2 of 6The team of Well Dunn may not ring many bells for today's younger fans, but fans who watched in the early '90s may remember them as the bow tie-wearing pretty boys who competed in WWE.
Timothy Well and Steven Dunn comprised the team, which competed in numerous promotions outside of the WWE, including SMW, USWA, WWC and PNW.
They did not hold the tag titles in WWE, but held them in several other promotions, including the USWA, where they held the belts four times.
The team feuded mainly with The Bushwackers in WWE and was generally managed by Harvey Wippleman.
Unfortunately Steve Doll, who went by the name Steve Dunn while in this team, died in March 2009 of a blood clot. He was only 39. May he rest in peace.
PG-13
3 of 6I am fairly sure most people will remember the Nation of Domination, but two of their early members may not stick out in your memory as well.
PG-13 was a tag team comprised of Kelly "Wolfie D" Wolfe and Jaime "JC Ice" Dundee. They competed in WWE from 1995 to 1996 as a part of the faction Nation of Domination, as well as on their own.
Their gimmick was two rappers who wrestled as well as played their music during their entrance.
They made their way through WWE, ECW and WCW but found their greatest success in USWA, where they held the tag titles an astounding 15 times.
They are one of the only teams who can claim they went through WWE, WCW and ECW and remained a team the whole time.
As a team, they have held a staggering 19 tag team titles in total.
PG-13 are still active, as they will be appearing in February for the promotion XCW
High Energy
4 of 6Owen Hart may best be known for being the younger but equally talented brother of Bret Hart, but he also had a tag team with Koko B Ware called High Energy.
After his first rung with WWF, short rung with WCW and return to WWF, he was given the gimmick of the Blue Blazer. Once that gimmick faded away, he was teamed up with Koko to create this team.
The team was short-lived and only had one PPV match against the Headshrinkers. They broke up in 1993 so Owen could pursue a singles career.
The team may not have had much success, but their outfits alone left a lasting impression on both my mind and my cornea.
Owen Hart is another person we lost way too soon. Rest in peace, Owen. You are missed by many.
The Beverly Brothers
5 of 6In 1989, Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom formed a team known as "The Destruction Crew."
Their gimmick saw them carry sledge hammers to the ring for their matches. Maybe this is where Triple H got the idea.
As a team, they wrestled all over the world for different promotions, including New Japan, AWA, WCW and WWE.
Once they signed with WWE, they were given the gimmick of spoiled rich brothers who went by the names Beau and Blake.
At one point, they were managed by Macho Man Randy Savage's brother, Lanny Poffo, better known as The Genius to some WWE fans
At first, they were a legitimate team who was a threat to the tag team champions. But, eventually, they were downgraded to jobbers and enhancement talent.
Conclusion
6 of 6I hope some of these teams brought back memories for you, as writing this brought back many for me. Please feel free to share your thoughts below and feel free to suggest what the next "WWE Weekly 5" should be about.
