Alabama Football Recruiting: How Nick Saban Will Reload Title Team

Eric BowmanJan 10, 2012

Fresh off winning the BCS National Championship Game, Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide will get right back to work. Hitting the recruiting trail hard is priority No. 1 if they want to have any shot at winning back-to-back titles.

Repeating next year will be extremely difficult, given the talent on both sides of the ball that Alabama is expected to be losing.

Still, Saban is one of the best recruiters in the country, and will ensure that Alabama remains at a high level. The 2012 season might be difficult, but the talent Saban keeps bringing in will have the Crimson Tide quickly back in the national title picture.

Here is how Saban will reload the Crimson Tide back into champions.

Staying the Top Class

Currently, Alabama has the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, but it could get even better. A lot can happen between now and National Signing Day, which is exactly why Saban has to keep at it to ensure his class stays at No. 1.

What's more, Alabama will have to keep those who have verbally committed from spurning them for another team. It happens all too often in college football these days, but since the Crimson Tide just won the title, I'd be very surprised to see any recruit jump ship.

Looking at whom Alabama already has, the top guys are safety Landon Collins, athlete Eddie Williams, athlete Cyrus Jones, cornerback Geno Smith and kicker Adam Griffith, who is arguably the best in the country.

These players will all be big factors in whether or not Alabama once again finds huge success in the future.

Seek More Talent

The Crimson Tide will need a few more additions to remain at No. 1, simply because those behind them aren't very far. One big 5-star recruit could easily leap-frog them over Alabama.

There are still loads of 5-star players considering Alabama, and if Saban can land some of the elite players that are certain to be stars, the Crimson Tide may not miss a beat in 2012.

Relying on freshmen will be difficult, but there's no denying that Alabama would be a team to fear if it landed some of the following players.

Defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, who is the No. 2 overall player by ESPN; wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, who Rivals.com ranks as the No. 1 overall player; and linebacker Kwon Alexander, who ESPN ranks as the third best at his position.

If the Crimson Tide land all three of these players the future becomes so bright it might just blind you. However, achieving that will be difficult since Alabama is up against schools like Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas just to name a few.

The most crucial of those three is Green-Beckham because he will be a huge difference maker right away. Listed at 6'6", 220 pounds, Green-Beckham would help make others fear an Alabama offense that's likely to lose its best player.

Any of those three would be excellent additions, along with the many other skilled recruits considering Alabama.

The Crimson Tide will continue to be threats in the SEC, and while 2012 will be harder than this year, Alabama will still be a tough team to beat.

Recruiting is the key to winning a national championship, and Saban is one of the best out there. I don't think Alabama will repeat next season, but once these incoming freshmen get a season under their belts, and another phenomenal recruiting class comes in, the Crimson Tide will have a better shot.
