WWE: Please Dont Pair Any More Pay Per Views With Gimmicks!
We are all familiar with some par per view events that will either by name or tradition contain a certain gimmick match or series of matches, but are the WWE in danger of over doing it?
Currently these are the pay per view events that are paired with a gimmick; The Royal Rumble (the 30 man Royal Rumble match), Wrestlemania (“Money in the Bank” ladder match), One Night Stand (all extreme rules matches), Night of Champions (all titles defended), Cyber Sunday (WWE fans vote on all match stipulations), Survivor Series (traditional Survivor Series elimination match), and although it is now on RAW the King of the Ring tournament.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Recently I read in a possible build up to Wrestlemania 25 article that there could be an elimination chamber match on No Way Out, and it got me wondering why the WWE feel they need to keep doing this.
I know this may only be speculation but as the “Championship Scramble” concept was utilized on all three Heavyweight Championships at Unforgiven in 2008, does that also mean we will be watching the pay per view “Unforgiven: The Scramble” in 2009?
I have nothing against either of these forms of match, but I feel that if the WWE pair all these gimmicks off with certain pay per views (and almost certainly make them exclusive) then in respects it will take away an element of spontaneity.
But what would be the reason that the WWE would feel they need to do it? I feel the answer is that we as the fan have become to expect every event to mean something, and build on storyline.
We know that there will be the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships defended at all pay per views, but if the other events don’t mean anything then we don’t seem too bothered. I think this is ultimately the reason the King of the Ring is no longer a pay per view, because it doesn’t lead to anything and has lost credibility.
I heard somebody liken WWE to a soap opera recently, and I think this kind of thing doesn’t help the matter. By allocating gimmicks with pay per views we as a fan can anticipate its arrival and speculate on where it will lead.
I don’t think they should stop them altogether because they are fun, but be creative. Throw a Scramble match into Wrestlemania, have an Elimination Chamber on RAW, just don’t become dependant on these gimmicks for predictable storyline at specific pay per views.
What do you think about the possibility of more Elimination Chamber matches at No Way Out, or Unforgiven becoming “Unforgiven: The Scramble”?
