Alabama vs LSU Predictions: Over/Under on 100 Yards Rushing for Trent Richardson
Let's get this out of the way from the get-go. Trent Richardson will not eclipse 100 yards on the ground for Alabama on Monday night.
Total yards may be a different story, but the Tiger defense will focus too much attention on Richardson to allow him to eclipse the 100-yard mark.
Richardson had three games this season with less than 100 yards. Week 1 against Kent State, Richardson didn't even hit 40. Week 8 against Tennessee he ran for 77, and Week 10 against LSU he ran for 89.
Being so close to 100 yards the first time against the Tigers will work against Richardson the second time around. LSU's defense will focus on Richardson and make sure he isn't going to send the Tigers packing single-handedly.
Richardson may gain 100 yards total, though. He grabbed 169 total yards last time against the Tigers and could have a very similar impact this time out.
Alabama's offensive line is stout and has blocked well for Richardson all season. He has more than 1,500 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns for a reason.
However, the Tigers front four has incredible depth. They will rotate bodies all night to make sure their legs are fresh, and Richardson cannot overpower them between the tackles.
The Tigers linebackers can tackle all over the field, and LSU's defensive backs hold their own in run support as well.
Richardson is absolutely capable of coming up with a 100-yard game, but you can bet Les Miles and John Chavis will dare A.J. McCarron to win this game for the Crimson Tide.
The last time the Tide took the field was November 26th against the Auburn Tigers. Richardson ran for 203 yards on 27 carries.
Alabama would like to see this success again, but LSU isn't Auburn by a long shot.
If Richardson wants to impact this game, he may find the most success in the passing game. He has more than 300 receiving yards this season and has also snagged three scores through the air.
He can't rely on taking handoffs for his biggest impact. LSU's defensive front is too fast, too strong and too deep to allow 100 yards to happen.
Richardson is the best back in the country going against arguably the best defense in the nation. It will be an epic clash in the trenches, but the Tigers will win the battle.
Look for Richardson to grab somewhere between 50 and 100 yards on the ground.
