Steph Curry Won't Push Warriors for Trade, But 'It's Pretty Clear Where I Stand'
Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry is focused on winning above all else.
Following the Warriors' 130-105 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, Curry addressed his desire to play for a winning team and that while he won't be pushing for the club to make a trade, he "wants to win."
"We have conversations all the time. I want to win," Curry said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. "It's not my job. I'm not a coach, I'm not a GM, I'm not an owner. It's pretty clear where I stand, trying to make the necessary adjustments to try to win."
Curry is under contract through 2027-28 and has led several winning teams in his time with the Warriors. Golden State has won four NBA Championships during Curry's tenure with the franchise, with the most recent coming in 2022.
However, the Warriors fell in the second round in 2022-23, lost in the play-in tournament in 2023-24, and are currently 24-24 this year and sit in 11th in the Western Conference. This has come despite solid play from Curry, who is averaging 22.1 points, 6.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds through 39 games this season.
The Warriors could engineer a turnaround this season, with the Feb. 6 Trade Deadline serving as an opportunity to add talent to the roster. Some of the top options available include Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine, Miami Heat guard Jimmy Butler and New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram.
It also could be an opportunity for the team to unload some value in order to help reshape the roster for the future. Curry's comments, however, show where his preferences lie as the team approaches the trade deadline.
