The 65-year-old Spagnuolo has won four Super Bowls as a defensive coordinator, one with the New York Giants (2007) and three more with the Chiefs (2019, 2022, 2023).
Kansas City has finished top 10 in scoring defense in five of his six years in Spagnuolo's tenure. The Chiefs were second in 2023 and fourth in 2024.
Spagnuolo was once head coach with the St. Louis Rams (2009-2011), but he was let go after three years following a 10-38 record.
It wasn't a successful stint, but he's been sensational as a DC. Spagnuolo has also presumably learned a lot since his time as head coach that could behoove him well in a future spot.
Four teams still have openings (Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars). He's interviewed with the Raiders and Jags (as well as the New York Jets, who have since hired Detroit Lions head coach Aaron Glenn.
So Spagnuolo still has a chance for a job. For now, though, he's looking to help guide the Chiefs to their third straight Super Bowl win. They have to get through the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game first, though, before heading back to the Big Game. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
