76ers' Jared McCain Out for Rest of Season After Meniscus Surgery on Knee Injury
Jared McCain's tremendous rookie season has come to an end.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced Thursday that McCain would miss the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign after undergoing meniscus surgery on his knee, via Sixers Wire's Ky Carlin.
McCain played just 23 games before suffering the injury in early December.

McCain, the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft out of Duke, was off to an outstanding start for the Sixers, averaging 15.3 points per game on an efficient 38.3 percent from deep. He had four 25-point games and led all rookies in three-pointers made at the time of his injury.
He suffered the lateral meniscus tear against the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 13 and was, at the time, one of just three players who had played in all of the 76ers games.
Philadelphia, which was 7-16 at the time of McCain's injury, has started to turn things around thanks to stars Joel Embiid and Paul George being on the court more often. The 76ers are currently 15-20 with Tyrese Maxey, who is putting up 25.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, leading the way.
Even though the Sixers have broken out of their early-season slump, they sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference and still have a hole to climb out of to get into playoff position. That task will be much more difficult without their star rookie.
While McCain's rookie season ended prematurely, he showed flashes of greatness through his limited action and the future is bright with him in Philadelphia. Until his return, the 76ers will lean on their veterans in Embiid and George as well as their young star in Maxey.
