NY Giants' Victor Cruz Wise to Turn Down Dancing with the Stars Opportunity
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was wise to turn down an opportunity to showcase his salsa talents on Dancing with the Stars on Friday.
According to the New York Daily News, Cruz wants to keep his focus solely on football right now and the demands of taping the show would jeopardize that focus.
Cruz is without question making the right move here, showing the Giants and the NFL where his loyalty lies, as well as how serious he his about his career even if his end zone celebrations suggest otherwise.
According to ESPN's Chris Sprow on Twitter, Cruz could have made more than $350,000 if he made the final of the hit television show, compared to the $405,000 he will make this season playing with the playoff-bound Giants.
Cruz helped lead the Giants to the postseason for the first time since 2008 with 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns.
The potential financial gain as well as the potential to become a pop culture icon are the leading reasons as to why any emerging NFL talent would sacrifice his climb to the top, but hardly compelling enough to actually warrant the decision.
The salsa dance is old news anyway. By the time Cruz's talents were broadcast to the masses, NFL fans and casual fans of the sport would already know of Cruz's specialty.
The question remains: Why go on Dancing with the Stars to salsa when all you have to do is score a touchdown against the Atlanta Falcons and perform it in front of a larger audience?
This decision wasn't a difficult one for Cruz, I hope, but one that could have easily gone awry. He was wise and he shall be rewarded with more camera attention moving forward.
