Lakers Rumors: Anthony Davis to Visit Eye Specialist Following Injury in Raptors Win

Scott PolacekNov 11, 2024

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis suffered an eye injury in Sunday's game against the Toronto Raptors and has been ruled out for the rest of the contest, per team reporter Mike Trudell.

ESPN's Dave McMenamin, citing sources, reported after the game "that Davis experienced swelling as a result of the contact, making it difficult to keep his left eye open. Davis will have the eye examined by an ophthalmologist Monday as a 'precautionary' measure."

Following the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick spoke about Davis' injury, per ESPN:

"I just know that he got poked in it, Redick said. "He was having trouble seeing. Obviously taking a little bit of trauma to the eye, it takes a little bit of time to get your clear vision back. But other than that, no update."

Davis had 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal before being forced to exit the game.

Davis already missed time this season with a heel injury, although he was far more durable than usual in 2023-24 when he appeared in 76 games. That was the first time he played more than 62 since the 2017-18 campaign.

When healthy, he is one of the best players of his generation with a resume that includes a championship, five All-NBA selections, five All-Defensive selections, three block titles and nine All-Star Game nods.

He has once again been excellent this season and was averaging a career-high 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.4 steals per game entering Sunday.

While the Lakers likely can't realistically compete for a deep playoff run in the daunting Western Conference without a healthy Davis, they do have some pieces to help the team tread water in the immediate future.

Look for the combination of Jaxson Hayes and Dalton Knecht to see more time if Davis is sidelined by the latest setback.
