NFL Exec Calls Chiefs 'Bit of a S--t Show,' Praises Patrick Mahomes 'Managing' Team
Patrick Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, so him having eight touchdown passes to nine interceptions through seven games this season is going to turn heads.
One NFL executive believes the "s--t show" of the Kansas City Chiefs' injury situation around him isn't helping.
"Mahomes' issue right now is injuries at receiver," the executive said in a Tuesday piece by Jeff Howe of The Athletic. "(DeAndre) Hopkins isn't a stretch-the-field player anymore. It's more of an issue of protection and issues with balance, which puts a lot of pressure on the QB. I don't think there's anything wrong with Mahomes. He's managing a little bit of a s--t show in terms of a personnel standpoint, their depth, changing out guys, offensive linemen, injuries."

Offseason Trade Block Big Board After NFL Draft 🏈
Kansas City is dealing with injuries to Isiah Pachecho, Rashee Rice, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, Skyy Moore and JuJu Smith-Schuster, among others, on the offensive side of the ball.
While it responded by adding Hopkins to the wide receiver room via trade, the 32-year-old isn't someone who is going to consistently exploit defenses with his unstoppable speed at this point of his career. The 35-year-old Travis Kelce is also an all-time great but not quite the same player he was at his peak.
That has left Mahomes managing some games rather than taking them over, but it has still been an effective formula for the Chiefs.
After all, they are 7-0 on the season and three games clear of the 5-3 Denver Broncos in the loss column in the race for the AFC West title. A first-round bye is very much in play, which would put them in position to challenge for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title.
Mahomes also played one of his best games of the season in Sunday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders and threw for 262 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Perhaps he is growing accustomed to the personnel around him and will be more effective moving forward.
That would mean trouble for the rest of the NFL.
