The 35-year-old's heroics have helped the Dodgers build a 2-0 series lead over the New York Yankees during the 2024 Fall Classic. In Game 1, Freeman hit a walk-off homer with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning while Los Angeles trailed by one run.
"Those are the kind of things, when you're five years old with your two older brothers and you're playing wiffle ball in the backyard, those are the scenarios you kind of dream about." Freeman told reporters after the win.
He also played an important role in Game 2, hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend Los Angeles' lead to 4-1. The Dodgers were able to hold on for a 4-2 victory.
Freeman is 3-for-9 with two homers and five RBIs through the first two games of the World Series.
His current stretch is even more impressive considering he's been hampered by an ankle sprain throughout Los Angeles' current postseason run. In fact, he was scratched from the Dodgers' lineup in Game 6 against the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series as well as Game 4 against the San Diego Padres in the NL Division Series.
Freeman struggled prior to the World Series as he dealt with ankle issues, hitting just .219 with zero home runs and 1 RBI to go along with a .461 OPS through eight 2024 postseason appearances.
His subpar play was one of the reasons why the Yankees intentionally walked Mookie Betts and chose to pitch to him prior to his walk-off homer.
Freeman and the Dodgers will look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead at Yankees Stadium, with Game 3 on Monday at 8:08 p.m. ET.
