Week 7 Waiver Wire: DeMario Douglas, Isaac Guerendo, Tracy Highlight Pickups to Know
Fantasy football managers should always focus on what's next.
So, while Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season hasn't completely wrapped yet, it's already time to start thinking about Week 7 and beyond.
The following three waiver-wire targets—each rostered in fewer than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues, per FantasyPros—can all help navigate the journey ahead.
DeMario Douglas, WR, New England Patriots (7 Percent Rostered)
1 of 3
New England's offense appeared relatively competent with rookie Drake Maye getting the start on Sunday. This still isn't a good attack by any stretch, but the Patriots did manage to post a season-high 21 points against a stingy Houston Texans defense that had just held Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills to 20 points the week prior.
If Maye's promotion makes this passing game...well, passable, then DeMario Douglas could be a must-roster receiver.
The second-year pass-catcher turned a team-high nine targets into six receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown. It was the third time in four games that Douglas has had nine passes sent his direction. And while he combined for 13 receptions in those other outings, he didn't see the same yardage or find the end zone when Jacoby Brissett was steering the ship.
With a more aggressive quarterback, Douglas might have a path to posting fantasy-relevant numbers week in and week out.
Isaac Guerendo, RB, San Francisco 49ers (4 Percent)
2 of 3
If you're searching for safety on the waiver wire, Isaac Guerendo is not the target for you. If San Francisco's backfield is remotely healthy, the rookie fourth-rounder has no role within it.
If you're chasing upside, though, there's a chance he could be the highest-scoring back in fantasy next week, because this running back room has been roughed up by the injury bug.
Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) remains out, Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) was lost before the season and Jordan Mason (shoulder) is day-to-day after his early exit Thursday night. All those dominoes dropping left Guerendo as the primary ball-carrier in Thursday's second half, and he delivered 99 yards on 10 carries.
Coach Kyle Shanahan's offense is a dream for running backs, and if Guerendo gets a chance to be the featured player in it for even one week, he has a non-zero chance of deciding your matchup by himself.
Tyrone Tracy Jr., RB, New York Giants (45 Percent)
3 of 3
Make it now back-to-back weeks in which rookie fifth-rounder Tyrone Tracy Jr. has pounced on his opportunity in New York's backfield.
With Devin Singletary again sidelined by a strained groin, Tracy commanded featured-back duties for the second straight week. Over the past two outings, Giants running backs have handled 42 carries; Tracy has gotten 35 of them.
He's doing more than racking up volume, too. While he struggled to get going as a rusher on Sunday (17 carries for 50 yards), he dazzled as a pass-catcher (six receptions on six targets for 57 yards). And last week, he showed the kind of impact he could make as a ball-carrier (18 rushes for 129 yards). In total, his last two games have yielded 42 touches for 237 scrimmage yards and a score.
While the return of Singletary (whenever that happens) could cut into Tracy's chances, he's been too good to disappear from this offense. And if the Giants, who fell to 2-4 Sunday, ever feel they've fallen out of the race, they could certainly decide it's better for their future to feature the 24-year-old rookie instead of the 27-year-old journeyman.
