Fantasy Football Week 5: Tips, Trade Value Rankings for Top 100 Players

Timothy RappOct 3, 2024

We all expected D'Andre Swift to score more fantasy points in Week 4 than he did the three weeks prior, right? Chase Brown and Jeremy McNichols scoring two touchdowns apiece was an obvious outcome, right? How about 11 receptions for Wan'Dale Robinson?

The point, of course, is that fantasy football remains excruciatingly unpredictable. Enough to pull your hair out at times.

But nothing feels better than identifying a player without breakout potential and landing them, either via your draft, the waiver wire or a savvy trade. If you have the latter in mind this week, let the weekly fantasy trade value chart guide you in your quest to maximize your return.

Target Jayden Reed in Trade Talks

In two games with Jordan Love under center this season, Reed has posted 11 catches for 277 yards and two touchdowns on 14 targets, adding two carries for 35 yards and another score.

In two games without him, he notched six catches for 59 yards on eight targets, four carries for 56 yards and zero touchdowns.

Two things are pretty clear: He's Love's top target, and in Green Bay's passing game, that makes him a breakout contender. But the fact that he also has six carries through four games is an indication that the Packers are going to find unique ways to get him the ball.

You may have lost your chance to buy low on Reed, but you should inquire about him anyway. He's a high-end WR2 in all formats going forward.

Grab Diontae Johnson While You Can

Like Reed, quarterback play has been the storyline of Johnson's season. With Andy Dalton under center the past two weeks, he's caught 15 passes for 205 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 27 targets.

With Bryce Young, meanwhile, he caught just five passes for 34 yards on 12 targets.

"We have a starting point, and it starts with Diontae Johnson and trying to figure out ways to formation him, to give him good looks that way," head coach Dave Canales told reporters on Wednesday, a huge indication that his current production is the plan in Carolina, not an outlier.

Sometimes, fantasy football is simple. If a trend has an obvious cause, trust that trend. Johnson could well end up being a WR2 on the season if this usage continues, so your chances of getting him on the cheap are lowering by the week. Pounce now.

Is it Time to Sell on Garrett Wilson?

This is a tough one, especially because selling on him now is undoubtedly selling low. Wilson currently ranks 38th among wideouts in PPR leagues, which is hardly the production fantasy players were expecting when drafting him early on.

In this case, a bit of patience may be in order.

Wilson has played just four full games with Aaron Rodgers under center, for one, far less than the Rodgers and Allen Lazard pair. He also hasn't been completely absent from the offense, 34 targets through four games, or 8.5 per contest.

Rodgers knows the best weapon he has in the passing game is Wilson—the pair will get on the same page.

Now, of course, there are coaching concerns given Nathaniel Hackett's stale offense, which Wilson lamented this week. The Jets have a pair of excellent running backs too. But Wilson's talent and Rodgers' pedigree suggests these two will figure things out, at least enough to reward your patience.

Unless somebody is willing to give you high-end WR2 prices for Wilson, ride out this rough stretch. It should get better.
