Jared Goff, Lions Beat Undefeated Seahawks as Explosive Offense Thrills NFL Fans
Lions and touchdowns and trick plays, oh my!
The Detroit Lions put on a show as they defeated the Seattle Seahawks 42-29 in Monday's thrilling NFC showdown at Ford Field. Between Amon-Ra St. Brown throwing a touchdown pass to Jared Goff and toe-tapping in the end zone, Jameson Williams turning on the burners for a 70-yard score and two running backs steamrolling defenders, there was no shortage of entertainment.
And the result is a 3-1 Lions team that once again looks like a true contender.

Goff went a perfect 18-of-18 passing for 292 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions, while David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for 118 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Seattle put up a fight on offense with Geno Smith throwing for 395 yards, one touchdown and one interception and Kenneth Walker III scoring three times, but Detroit had too much firepower.
Social media noticed:
The start of Monday's potential playoff preview made it seem like the Lions were going to send a message with their physicality. Jack Campbell forced a DK Metcalf fumble, Montgomery bowled his way through tacklers to the end zone to punctuate a 12-play, 93-yard drive and the home team took a 21-7 lead into intermission.
Then the fireworks started.
Seattle and Detroit traded touchdowns on the first five possessions of the second half with Smith locking in and finding a rhythm as Walker consistently found paydirt for the visitors. But the Lions had an answer every time thanks to multiple plays that stood out.
First, Montgomery bounced off multiple tacklers as a receiver with one of the most physical plays of the season. That set up a trick play that saw St. Brown loft a perfectly placed pass right into the waiting arms of Goff.
Sure, the Seahawks scored again after that, but the Lions responded in style when Williams broke free for a one-play, 70-yard drive to extend the advantage to two scores heading to the fourth quarter.
The pattern of Walker touchdowns and Detroit answers to push the lead back to two scores continued again in that fourth quarter when St. Brown showed off his athleticism by tapping both feet in bounds along the sidelines in the end zone.
Things got a bit dicey for the Lions down the stretch when Goff was sacked for a safety when they were trying to run out the clock, but Kerby Joseph's interception in the end zone clinched the win for Detroit and gave the Seahawks their first loss of the season.
The NFC North team now takes momentum into the bye week and will look to keep things rolling in Week 6 against another possible contender in the Dallas Cowboys.
