Steelers' Justin Fields Expected to Start vs. Chargers over Russell Wilson, HC Says
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin continues to dismiss all questions about the quarterback position whenever Russell Wilson is ready to return from a calf injury.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Tomlin said the team will continue to prepare with Justin Fields as the starter in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
"We're readying ourselves around Justin," Tomlin explained. "We'll stay in that mindset until something happens. Hypotheticals are a waste of time."

Tomlin went on to explain his approach to the quarterback depth chart hasn't changed, nor will it until Wilson gets healthy.
Tomlin has used his lack of interest in hypotheticals as a go-to whenever he's been asked about whether or not Fields would remain the starter when Wilson is healthy.
"I'm not going to soothe you with hypothetical scenarios," Tomlin told reporters last week. "Our energies and attention are on those that are available and are scheduled to play. When those that are not [get] healthy, we'll ponder it at that time."
Wilson has been inactive but was the emergency No. 3 quarterback for the Steelers in each of the first two games. Tomlin said on Tuesday that the nine-time Pro Bowler will continue to be a limited participant in practice to start this week.
Winning the first two games with Fields as the starter has eased some of the concerns from Pittsburgh about the quarterback position. The offense isn't lighting up the stat sheet with just one touchdown drive in two weeks, but Fields is managing the game without making big mistakes. He has yet to commit a turnover in 134 snaps this season.
Defense is the strength for this Pittsburgh roster. The unit has allowed a total of 16 points and forced five turnovers in two games.
There may come a point when Fields' lack of big plays becomes an issue, but things are working out in a way that allows the Steelers to win games.
Wilson originally dealt with a calf injury early in training camp. Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com noted he missed more than three weeks before returning to practice at that time.
If that timeline holds again, it's possible Wilson could be a full practice participant at some point this week or next week.
As long as the Steelers keep winning games with Fields, though, it would seem unlikely that Tomlin would make a change a quarterback.
