Stephen Jones: Cowboys Had '0 Frustration' with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb Contracts

Paul KasabianSep 9, 2024

After lengthy contract negotiations, both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb signed long-term extensions with the Dallas Cowboys prior to the team's 33-17 season-opening win over the Cleveland Browns.

It looked hairy at times, with Lamb holding out of training camp before signing on Aug. 27 and Prescott's deal not getting done until hours before the Cowboys kicked off in Cleveland. But they got done.

In the aftermath of those contracts, Cowboys COO and co-owner Stephen Jones was asked by Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer if the team was ever frustrated. He had this to say in response.

"That's not right. There is zero frustration. I mean zero frustration—zero. That's the nature of the business; things get done at deadlines. That is just part of the nature of the beast. You can look at a lot of good teams around the league. San Francisco had their share. Cincinnati has their share. It doesn't bother us. I mean, it's not frustrating.

"It bothers media, who want to make a story. It actually gives y'all a lot to write about. So that's actually outstanding, y'all got something to talk about."

Jones then laughed and added: "We don't worry about it."

Lamb is in the mix on a four-year, $136 million contract extension ($67 million guaranteed). Prescott inked the richest contract (per average annual value) in NFL history, signing a four-year, $240 million deal with $231 million guaranteed.

The Cowboys frankly have zero to be frustrated with right now after Prescott, Lamb and the rest of the squad earned a dominant Week 1 win at the Browns.

Prescott enjoyed a clean game (19-of-32, 179 yards, one touchdown) and Lamb led the team in receiving (five catches, 61 yards).

Up next for the 1-0 Cowboys is a home date against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
